Hi everybody i'm new here. My name is Jessica and I traded my 1983 Trans Am for a 89 LX 5.0 Mustang. I don't know much about Mustangs but I am willing to learn. I also own a 2002 Collecors Edition Trans Am and a 93 Sunbird GT that is my daily driver. I just wanted to say hi and make some new friends and learn some new stuff about stangs.

Smile Welcome Jessica!

Good to have your here.

How did you find this place?? Well, however, count yourself blessed. This is THE best Mustang forum in the nation. Take off your shoes and relax. You can have whatever's in the fridge just don't leave empty bottles of beverage in there (but I wouldn't mess with the milk if I were you... ). The bathroom is down the hall, 2nd door on the right. We'll see ya 'round.

welcome welcome

your right around the corner from mason dixon raceway .......ever race ?...........

although i'm not much of a gm guy ,i do respect the ls1 cars ......there pretty fast right out of the box ......there limited and expensive for modding though ..........mustangs are great for modding ,when it comes to modding a car ,the sky's the limit for a fox mustang you can build what ever kind of car you want out of one ...from a 7 sec drag car to a 11g corner carver

well hope to hear from ya more ......it's kinda cool seeing a local chic into cars

Smile Hey!

Hi Jessica, and welcome to MW.

The Mustang 5.0 responds well to modifications.

The first and best mod you can do for the '89 is to install a 3.73 rear (stock is 2.73 or optional 3.08).

A K&N air filter is a natural first step, as well as a full tune up. Timing can usually be advanced to 14 degrees (initial) with no problems (and snappier throttle response) as long as you run 92 octane (or better) gas.

An aftermarket shifter like a PRO 5.0 is also a 'must have' to get the most out of those quick-climbing 5.0 revs.

Sub-frame connectors are also a very wise investment, especially on an older 'Stang like yours. Subs noticably improve launches and handling and tighten up the whole body.

Exhaust is a favorite area to play with and there are a ton of muffler choices but an H-pipe should be the first exhaust mod as the 4 catalytic converters are the biggest exhaust bottleneck.

The factory headers are O.K. with stock heads but if you plan on installing aftermarket heads, you'll naturally want better headers. Lots of choices.

Just a few basic mod suggestions to get you started.

Good luck with your Mustang - and come back often.

Yeah, neither of you!!

Welcome Jessica, hope you come to call this board home!

Mr 5.0 is right on about the best first mods, although the best choice gear ratio may vary depending on your needs. A 3.55 may be a better choice if your Stang sees lots of highway duty, but 3.73s ARE tons of fun down low, while not leaving you high and dry in the upper RPMs.

Just start reading tech articles, and you'll come to learn what you need to know ASAP! Be wary of opinions of the best parts and mods, etc...what may be best for one Stanger may not fit YOUR needs. You'll sort through them eventually! I learned slowly but surely, hell I'm still a beginner after almost 4 years

I'm orginally from Maryland too...born and raised in Bethesda, and did my stints in PG county and Jefferson (close to you!) Do they still race in downtown Hagerstown? Good to see another MDer in the forums!
