Unhappy Broke the Cobra...again.

I have no idea what I broke, but the engine and tranny are sitting cock-eyed. I know the first thing out of everyone's mouth is the motormount or tranny mount, but they are fine. I won't bore you with the specifics, but I threw the belt off, and the cold air kit popped off, and the motor is sitting about 2-3" lower on the driver's side rear. The shifter is cocked so that first and second gears rub the console piece around the shifter. God I wish I could cuss on here.

Damn, i would definately check that area a little harder, mounts, crossmember, somewhere on the frame, did it happen while racing, or hard acceleration?

Did the K-member physically break??? That's just weird, I don't think anything would bend like that without it being obvious elsewhere. Hope you figure out what it is!

He said he did it under hard
acceleration, shifting from
first to second. Good thing
is she can be driven if need
be.

It's got to be ether the mounts or the K-member. take another look.

Wink

tireburner163....I was just about to ask if I was trying hard enough.

I checked the k member, and everything I could put a flash light's beam on, but came up M T handed. What happened is I was pulling out from work and I suppose I hit some water, and as any good 'Stanger knows, I lost traction. No biggie. I just shifted, and started to accelerate away, when the rear end started hopping. After about three to four hops I figured out what I was doing and stopped, at which time the battery light, check engine light, and some other light came on. I lost power steering and knew that the belt had popped off. And you know the rest of the story.

SO.....any takers? Some one tonight said that I might have warped the driveshaft, but I have no idea how valid that might be. So, again, any takers?

sorry cobra .......didn't mean to accuse u of doing anything wrong.....was going off of the post i read and trying to come up with explanations as to what might have broke......i would try to un bolt moter mounts and pull them out to inspect.also look at the k member and all the mounting brackets to see if u can see signs of bending.....if you see nothing wrong than try to bolt engine back up in proper alighnment....maybe somthing just shifted in an elongated hole and just needs realighned......well good luck.

I agree. It sounds like the mounts either went away or alowed the engine to twist on the mounting pads of the K-member. I did something similar to this on the cleveland once. THe motor mount can also collapse enough to drop one side and still look fairly normal to visual inspection. It's got to be one of the three mounts or something associated with it. Try this. Have Momma drive the car back and forth a few feet while you watch the engine with the hood up. See if it moves excessively in either direction. Another way is to accelerate moderately in both directions and see if there is significant movement of the shifter when the engine torques. Good luck
