Question Tire Size

My 97 GT has the stock Goodyears(245/45/17) on. I want a fatter tire on that wheel. Whats the widest I can go in the front without having the tires scrape? And also whats the widest I can go in the rear? Thanks.

You can run much larger tires on the SN-95 Mustangs than on Fox bodied cars. Out back the biggest I think you could do would be a 295. I've known people with 315s but they had to cut the tailpipes off because they were rubbing on the tires. This is, of course, with larger wheels. Just slapping a 295 tire on an 8" wheels would probably hurt your handling/traction more than it would help. Up front I'd go as big as 275 with bigger wheels. AFS makes 17"x10.5" Cobra Rs that would do wonders for your car and would make that size tire useable.

Don't go much higher in the front. I have 17x9 in the front with 255/40/17 and mine rub like no other its driving me nuts!!! Makes me miss my skinnies. I have 315/35/17 out back, and I didn't have to cut my tailpipes, just repositioned them and took off the quad shocks. Since each tire was close to $300 apiece and I don't really care to do burnouts (I watch others smoke their tires hehe), I haven't noticed really any wheel hop at all.
