Default Can you replace the middle part in your steering wheel without the airbag blowing up?

My friends 98 cobra got in an accident and after rebuild and what-not there was the horse in the middle of his steering wheel insted of it saying cobra. I dont know if the jerks just switched wheels cause they wanted the cobra one but what can we do, we've been trying to think of something any help is good, thanks
