Post just bought a new rear end and have question

i bought a new rear end from a friend, and not that i dont trust him but i want to make sure i got what i paid for. I know it has 373 gears in it, just because of the torque difference, but im going to mark the drive shaft and the tire and turn it to make sure, now the rear end is also suppossed to have an Auburn Posi unit in it. Is there any way for sure to tell without crackin the rear end open???
