![]() today was a really good day. some friends and i decided to go mountain biking, which involves a really sceninc drive out into the (relative) country. basically upper-middle class whiteperson-ville. well, on our way we saw a bright-yellow Lamborghini Countach. I sh!t you not. we pulled over, and went to look at it. the owner was out there when we got there, so we struck up conversation. he seemed like a nice guy, had a euro-trash accent, so i figured maybe he brought the car over with him (btw he also had an SL600, an XJ6, and a C5). all of his cars had Texas plates. anyhoo, upon closer examination of the "Countach" i am becoming more and more uimpressed. the lamborghini nameplate is crooked, and the taillights are NOT lamborghini lights. they are round lights, Countach's had square ones. they are also applied with black screws. he opens the door (so cool!) and shows us the interior. the leather is ripped in quite a few places, and the leather on top of the transmission tunnel is held on by buttons—the kind of buttons you'd have on your starter jacket. and the transmission tunnel is WAY too small for it to be a lamborghini. he closes the door, and it doesn't even line up right! then i notice the gas filler cap is protruding from the driver's side engine air intake scoop.....wtf!?!?!?!?!?! im already convinced it is a kit, but then i get down and look at the rear. the suspension control arm has "GM" stamped on it. i tried to control my laughter. the owner said it was a Countach, and he may actually believe it. oh well. his loss (i'd like to see the look on his face when he takes it to be appraised). anyway, we're on our way. during our break from mountain biking, a Ferrari F40 goes by on the road, and a Porsche 911 turbo goes the other way, at almost the same time. i flip, so do my riding buddies (dinomite). on our way home, we see a Chevelle. we all say "cool!" and i catch up to it. the three of us look over, wave, give thumbs up etc. i rev my camry, he looks at me. he floors it, and some slats or vents on the cowl induction hood open! we all clap, wave, thumbs up as he flies away. we catch him again at a stop sign, and comment on his car. he says "wanna race title for title?" we all laugh. i drop a friend of, and Dinomite and i go to talk to him. he opens his hood, and shows us a relatively stock 350 with a four bbl Edelbrock carb. we chat for a few minutes, express our distaste for ricers, and go our seperate ways. all in all, it was a very good day. and i didn't even tell you about the motorcyclist's we ran into!
