Help me find a gear
My buddy with the pulling truck needs a set of 6.80:1 gears for a Dana 60 or for a 9 inch Ford. It is actually going in the front 4WD housing on his pulling truck. We need the gears for the Dana 60 more than the nine inch. If we cant find the Dana gears we can swap to a inch but dont want to. Where can i order gears, who has some used, or anyone have a suggestion?
Thanks Brad

Richmond makes a 6.83:1 ring and pinion set for the DANA 60. It's the Pro Gear set #79-0056-1. Try calling Jim Baker at Hawaii Racing (1-805-583-8880) between 9am and 6pm Tuesday through Friday, or 9am and 4pm on Saturday (all times pacific). Make sure to specify Jim Baker (there are two Jim's there), and tell him you're a friend of mine (Peckerwood). He can check and see what's available, and give you a price.
Take care, -Chris

Thanks alot man. I know RIchmond used to make a 6.80 gear. That is really what we are looking for. the rear is a Rockwell 106 from a two ton truck with a 6.80:1 gear. The 6.83 is close but that wont work cause the front would turn slower tha nthe back but maybe he can come up with something.

Sorry. I can't find any. The closest 9" is a 6.50:1. The only combo that creates a 6.80:1 is a 34 tooth ring gear with a 5 tooth pinion gear. I've never seen a DANA 60 ring gear with that few teeth. The 6.83:1 is a 41-6 combo. Is he positive he's got 6.80:1? Not doubting, just unfamiliar.
Take care, -Chris

He is a Ford Genius, but it is possible that he has a 6.83:1 gears in the back. He has a 6.57:1 in the front know which is ok since it is pulling and not being pushed against by the rear. I contacted Richmond and they will have a 6.80 set in about a week and a half for the 9 inch but nothing for the Dana. There are so many compaines that make the 6.50's it isnt funny. Ive found 14 this morning. IF there is ANY company that makes a 6.80 or 6.83 gear for the Dan or the Rockwell we'd be interested.
Thanks Brad

PKRWUD- Dont just go buy the set of gears if you find em.
SRV1- Havent Tried Precision gear. I'll give em a call. Thanks If their is any other gear manufacturers you know about let me know. Name brand isnt important. Thier probably like shoes. Made in the same factory just stamped with different names. Brad
