500 miles is a reasonable break-in but stay out of the red on the tach (don't mis-shift) at all costs.
I didn't beat on my then-brand-new '90 Mustang 5.0 until it had about 700 miles on it and it's still running great at 115,000. Change the oil and filter again at 1000 miles, then every 2 or 3 thousand afterward. Invest in a magnetic drain plug, too. You'll be surprised how much metal you'll find on it in the first few changes. |
