Default Hood?hood?hood?

I need to find a full length 4" or 5" (preferably 5") pin-on hood for my 1986 Mustang GT, so far any of the companies I've checked out don't have full length hoods for my year (only 87-93) or they never got back to me. I'm looking for one just like the Cervini's 5" full length pin-on. Any info on where I could get one, even a custom ordered hood, would be greatly appreciated.

I don't want to hijack your thread, but since you're asking about hoods, I thought I'd toss in a quick question...

How impractical is a fiberglass lift-off hood? Can you actually lift up the front if you need to check the oil, or add coolant, or something? Or does it require signifigant modifications to the point where you really can't use one on a daily-driver?

429mustang> check the classified ads over at www.hardcore50.com. I think I seen a 5 inch pin on there.

Jeb, a ppin on hood really isnt practical on a daily driver in a sense. You cant jsut lift the front of it to check to oil or anything but, they only weigh a few pounds (literally like 15 or 20 maye) so they arent hard to jstu lift off and set out of the way. I undersand what your saying though, I wouldnt want have to take the hood completely off to show the motor off while at the local hang out spot but then again, they're make the car seem much more racey to me so I guess its just up to you if you wnat a prop rod or just sit it out of the way totally.

well jeb the high jacker unless you have hinge's, or struts in the back, you will need two people to do it.

I assumed you couldn't lift it up at the front like a regular hood, but what I really meant was, do you have to take it off and set it down every single time you want to get any access under the hood? Is it possible to pick it up off the rear pins, set it on the cowl, and then tip it up from the front?

Yes you will have to pick it up off the car and set it aside everytime. I guess you could just pick it up and set it on the cowl but I dont wanna scratch my cowl panel to much. And you do know that you would want to use zsus(spelling) fasteners and not jsut four hood pins dont you. I think it makes em looks sweet.

well heres another question.
What if you installed the rear 2 pins through the factory hinges, that way you could easily remove the whole hood if needed or just pop it open like normal.

I guess it wouldn't be as structurally sound, but I thought I'd just throw it out there

I don't think you can do that. It was my understanding that the lift-off ones are just a sheet of molded fiberglass.

Truth be told, I can work around having to take it off every time, assuming it's strong enough to be lifted by one person. If it's the kind of deal where you need four people supporting it so it doesn't crack in half, I'm screwed.

I distinctly remember taking the hood off my Fiero by myself a handful of times. Once I got the knack of it, I could just grab it in a bear hug and pick it up. That had a full frame to it, though.

My buddies fiber pin opn hood weighs about 15 pounds, he takes it off by himself and there is some flex in it to. It would break if there wasnt. He has never had a problem with his. I will be running a pin on hood when I get to the ppoint of needing one.

Can a hood from an 87-93 be fitted to work on an 86?

Actually it isnt held with "pins". It is held in place with three "zsus" fasteners down each side. Go to Jegs or Summit and look at the fasteners. They're pretty easy to install and you only use a small little screwdriver type tool to unlatch them. This will be my setup when I get ready for a hood.

And 429mustang, as far as I know the extreme fromt of the hood is the difference in the two hoods. You might be able to purchase a 87-93 pin on full hood and trim it to fit but dont quote me on that.
