Default Even the MEDIA gets the ricer mentality...

Was watching TV last night when a commercial for the new Toyota Celica comes on....

Its red, its low, big honkin' double wing (yes, they're optional from the dealer now folks...).
Its parked in front of a house in a residential neighborhood.
You hear a dog barking, it comes into the picture and runs head on, full speed into the rear of the car.

Then on the screen come the words:
"Looks Fast"
It's in big, bold lettering.

At least Toyota knows what market they're selling to...

I think that whole series of commercials was pretty funny actually. I even went and test drove a Celica GT-S. I was fairly impressed, decent handling, fairly quick as 4 bangers go and the only car I've ever been impressed by the safety features. The motor is designed to drop down in a front end collision instead of coming back at you. The spare doughnut is designed to act as a secondary rear bumper as well. Not too shabby. The 6 speed was a nice touch also.

I think the point of the commericals is to allude that if it looks that fast stopped, it must be really fast. Of course we all know this to not be true, and I'd rather have my car look slow and go like heck. I believe thats true of most here, or else we wouldn't be into Mustangs.

Sometimes I even think the Mustang has too much of a rep as a fast car. Maybe a Falcon Sprint will be my vintage car. Hmm, 4.11's, 9" locker, both stock, sounds like a good place to start.

A Falcon Sprint? Even it looks fast compared to my Dodge! Think big...no bigger...no bigger than that! lol Like 13 feet long big. 6 feet wide big. 2 1/2 tons kinda big. It's funny as h*ll watching the ricers, Camaro's and yes even many a mustang get left by the land yacht. They get me off the line but I catch up way quick. For an idea of how big go to the link at the bottom of the bottom. Speedo goes to 120 and I've had it back to 20 before it started drifting towards the median. It runs in the 13's too. I love that boat...errr...car.Ian's Rides
