Unhappy moving to california have to get rid of the stang

Hi everybody. Its been a while since i've been on the site because im trying to distance myself from mustang stuff. My wife to be is in the army and she is in monterey. I will be moving there sometime soon after march. I guess ill have to sell my stang because there is no chance it would be street legal there. I always said that i would never sell my stang. things change i guess. Im planning on getting a sport bike to take to cali. Anyone know if the weather in monterey is good for riding most of the time (does it rain all the time)? Its wierd to get the new Summit and Jegs catalogs and other magazines and have to try not to scour them for good deals on mustang parts. If anyone wnts to trade a relatively new sportbike for a mustang, or wants to buy it let me know.

Later,
Adam

Why won't it be street legal in california besides the offroad h pipe? Can't you leave it registered to someone in your current location or is the move to cali permenent?

Your car should be street legal except for the off-road pipe but there are ways to get around that too (just ask Skyman)

The move to california isn't permenant, but we will be there for more than a year. I eliminated the smog pump a while back because it was shot. I could put a regular h-pipe back on which probably wouldn,t do much for my performance, and buy a new smog pump, and still not be shure it would pass the sniffer there. Even with the car registered in oklahoma wouldn't I need to have an inspection sticker for california?

California doesn't have an inspection sticker. If you have valid plates on it from another state, you're good to go.

Take care,
ÅChris

Default Don't sell the stang

Try to buy a used smog pump for the test and get a used h-pipe, then try to pass it. What's the worst that could happen, you may pass. By looking at your sig. it looks like you'll pass. Either way, if you still want to sell the car, I'm sure you can get more money for it out here in California. Good luck, Keith

FWIW, it's a federal offense to buy or sell a used smog pump or a used cat.

Take care,
ÅChris

Zepherman ... The weather in Monterey in Jan and feb is colder than a witches tit in a brass bra on the dark side of the moon in the middle of the ice age !! Well its really not that cold on the thermometer but the ocean air makes if feel cold ... I was at Ft Ord for boot camp in Feb & Mar, and one min i was freezing the next i was hot. It doesn't rain that much but in the late spring you start to get alot of fog (cold). On the plus side just south of you at Big Sur and Carmel is some of the most beautiful coast line on the entire planet !!! don't miss Pt Lobos or the 17 mile drive at carmel !! Infreekin credible !!

Default Do NOT sell your car!

All you need is military tag in your window and you are good to go. I know guys who have been in CA for years and still run OK plates. There is some kind of weird exemption for guys in the service to not have to reregister cars.

Have her talk to a CO, or base, or heck just run with it. But don't sell the car. Leave the plates on it.
