Angry please help

My girlfriend has an 89 Probe. It is an automatic. She parked behind me but went to move it and it backed up a few feet then stopped. The engine is running but there is no power. There is a light on the dash that says manual shift that is on but the system is not engaged, nor will the light go out. I gave the car gas and it did nothing, one time I did this and the car pulled forward slow then stopped again, with the engine still on. I have no clue what this is...is the tranmission stuck? At the end of my rope, thank god my 66 stang has no computer to **** it up. Thanks

check the parking brake

Similar thing happens to my truck. It has an electronic tranny, and if I don't get the shifter in the gate just right, it will barely move. Keep in mind this is very bad for the tranny. My guess is that the tranny is gone....

No the brake is not on, fluid is good.Strange........ never had a car do this before. Any of you guys know a way to check for a specific problem. Trying to narrow them down.

Not to put a damper on your day, but I had that happen in a ranger I used to have, and it cost me a little over $2000 and 3 months without my truck.
