Hey were the 94-95 5.0's faster then the 96-98 4.6's?
I never really did any research yet but were the 94-95 5.0's faster or slower stock to stock against the 96-98 4.6's being they were all 215hp expect the 98 with 225? Thanks

I think the 5.0L's are faster. But there are several factors to that.
1. The 5.0L's are easier to modify, i.e. advance timing (and therefore most 5.0L might have a few HP more) 2. The power band on the 5.0L is broader and had more low end torque (therefore if anything they FEEL faster) 3. I think at the end of the day a stock 5.0L was putting out more than a stock 4.6L, but that is just my opinion. |

stock for stock the 5.0 has a slight edge. But once the modding starts, it's all 5.0

Right out of the box, for those years probably the 5.0's. Even modded ,back then the 4.6's didn't have a whole lot to bolt up, so the 5.0's. But now the 4.6's are up to speed so it depends on how much $$$$$$ ya got

The 5.0 stangs were faster than the 4.6 sohc until 99.
The 99+ stangs are faster than the stock 5.0s and run with the 96-98 cobras. |

mod motor or 5,0
both my GT's run good and are bone stock. the 4.6 walks the 5.0 every time. doesn't matter who's driving. this is all i have to go by. ps. the 98 gt has 260 hp.

I dunno where you got the idea that the 4.6 is faster. Your name suggests that you have a 96 Cobra. True the DOHC 4.6 is faster, but we're talking about the SOHC. 1) the 5.0 is lighter 2) the 4.6's powerband sucks *** The 5.0 is faster stock and is MOSTLY DEFINATLY faster modded

Of course all cars are different, so yes, some 96-98 GT's might be faster than some 94-95 GT's. But I think IN GENERAL, the 94-95 GT's are faster.
And I agree with tireburner, no 98 GT came with 260HP, you had to wait 1 more year for that |
