Going to look at a 97 cobra.....need advice
Ok so I had a couple fox bodies, but havent had a stang in about 5 years. Im going to look at this car tomorrow 97 cobra coupe, with 22k miles on it. What should I be looking at. It has original tires(I know they need to be done)ac stopped blowing cold last year(could be recharge/leak/not that important really right now), but what areas should I concentrate on the cobra? Any areas that would show any twist, common leaks, common trouble? Car is stock except for s/s brake lines. Any help is great!

Re: Going to look at a 97 cobra.....need advice
That is some low miles! I'd first run a Carfax on it and check to make sure it hasn't been wrecked. Make sure the hood is centered correctly, the space bewteen the hood and fender should be the same on both sides. I can't think of anything to check for specifically on the Cobra except for the usual you'd check with any car. I know the 96 models had a cooling problem but not the 97s. You may want to do a compression check just be on the safe side. Good luck with it and post pics if you get it.

Well, I went this morning and put the deposit on it........going to try to pick it up this week or the latest this coming weekend. Car was meticulously maintained. I did run carfax and comes back clear and everything matches up......everything lines up perfect, ran nice, everything felt good. Awesome car, LOL. Im excited about this. Been 4-5 years since I sold my last mustang. Only thing wrong is the a/c stopped blowing cold last year. Other than that everything seems great.

You didn't say what you had to pay for it but it sounds like it is in great shape......22K miles is way low.............

Good luck with it! I know how you must feel. It sounds like a nice car.
FWIW, Carfax doesn't always show up all accidents or vehicle history. If you had an accident and paid to get it fixed yourself, it won't show up on Carfax. |
