Default Some A-hole backed into my car....and took off

Well today some guy in a taco bell parking lot backed into my car, hit the bumper and hesitated, looked at my car and then left. I was still in the taco bell and a witness stuck around to let me know what happened, he even got most of the plate number and was able to help me get the bastard who did this to my car. I'm going to need a bumper cover, right tail lens and after talking to the insurance adjuster i might be able to get a new rim (scratch on rim from contacting curb - pushed into it) and an alignment.
This sucks because my primary mode of transportation will be sidelined for awhile.
I'm pissed off, i hate people who hit and run

After talking to the cop, it sounds like because of the fact that he didn't get out of his truck he may not get nailed with a hit and run and hopefully the idiot has insurance so mine doesn't go up.

Anyway, i had to vent, this sucks!

Your lucky someone helped you out. Hope they get the guy. I got a big dent in my truck from a parking lot a couple of months ago. Except there where no witnesses. So i got really screwed.

Man that really sucks. Good luck getting the guy. I hate stupid people who can't take responsibility for the stuff they do. What year mustang is it that got hit? Maybe I can help you find the parts you need to get everything fixed again.

It was my '98 Cobra....i didn't even notice that i didn't mention which one, which could be confusing.

I'm going to wait it out and see if my insurance or if the guy's insurance covers the damage, if i have to pay deductible i may get every small scratch, dent and ding removed. If it's his insurance i'll try and get what i can. Luckily my tail lens is only scratches, and my bumper although the paint is now coming off it's intact. It's tempting to pocket the money and invest it or something like that (maybe pay for the repair later and have some extra) but i don't know. It would suck to have to drive it like this though.

I'm VERY lucky that the guy stuck around as a witness, i thanked him several times and told him that i REALLY appreciated him doing that for me. I know how much it sucks to have someone hit your car and leave because my cobra has been bumped into at least 4-5 times since i've had it (July 2005) which is an insane amount of people hitting my damn car

Yeah thats crazy! Good samaritans! Can't live without 'em. Yeah 4 or 5 times getting hit in that short period of time is insane. I alwalys park my stang way away from everyone else just cause I don't want to take the chance. Yeah you have to walk 5 of 10 minutes to get into the store but at least your car is a little safer. Hey, keep me updated on the situation. Curious now. Later

Wow, I really feel for you. I think a lot of people are just jealous that you drive a stang. I have a black GT 05 and one time this mean woman almost most crashed into me on purpose. People are always giving me looks and challenging me on the road. People are jealous and too ignorant to buy their own.

thanks 69bronco, i'm happy knowing i have a car assasin i can count on
thanks mr.mustang and mustaang girly, sometimes life can just crap on you when you least expect it. I just wanted to eat some cheap taco bell and get back to work, i ended up losing $100+ just because of the time i missed from work to wait for the cops and talk to the insurance adjuster from progressive.
That's cool you have an '05 mustang - mustaang girly, those are great looking cars - i've only driven a couple of V6's and they seemed to ride/handle nice.

The other guy's insurance should pay for your repairs, which sound relatively minor. I say 'relatively' minor because just driving onto a body shop's lot can cost you money, they are that expensive (and necessary). After all: the other driver hit you...why should your company have to pay for the damage he caused? Had you not had the 'Good Samaritan' witness that got the partial plate number for you, your company would have paid - but you would be stuck paying the deductable, as you know. I would have given the guy $20. (if you had it) as he probably saved you hundreds - and he didn't have to do that.

The officer may have been anticipating the guy telling him he didn’t realize he hit your car. Kind of hard to argue that if the witness saw him get out and inspect the damage, then drive off. Regardless, if he hit your car hard enough to push a rim into a curb, he knew he hit it and shoulda been issued the ticket.

The good side here, sounds like he is taking responsibility for the wreck. His insurance should pay for the damages. Have you found out if he had insurance yet? I would think you would know by now, but he may be trying to avoid that ticket as well.

My knowledge is Illinois law based only, but I am sure your state has comparable laws.
