Infant car seats in Mustangs
My wife and I just had a baby Monday Feb 7th, but I couldn't bring her (the baby) home in the stange b/c the infant seat we have for her wouldn't fit in the rear seat (in the rear-facing position) without the front seat (passenger) being all the way up (legs hitting the dash). I was wondering if any of you all have a seat that fits in the back with NORMAL riding position for the passenger. Thanks a lot.

Re: Infant car seats in Mustangs
Is there a belt in the center of the back seat for it to go there?

Re: Infant car seats in Mustangs
I don't know what you have for a Mustang, but here is what we did. We don't have an airbag up front on the passenger side, though.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...nbrad/scan.jpg I did rig up a way to put his child seat in the back (after he got bigger) facing forward, using both seat belts on each side. I don't think we ever put him in the back facing backward. Brad

Re: Infant car seats in Mustangs
dhg4489,
I took both the 98 V-6 and the 03 GT to my local Highway Patrol office and sought their expertise. LOL.... The baby was left at home with PaPa. But they had some excellent suggestions (save one nice man told me to get rid of the Stang and get a family sedan.. uh huh... LOL).. Good Luck...I know it is tough. Now my little man is 7 and the 05 Stang actually weighs the passanger and automatically turns off the SRS. Ahhh, technology at it's best. Jennifer |

Re: Infant car seats in Mustangs
My solution was to buy a Windstar for my wife and an extended cab F-150 for me. I was in a slightly different situation as I suddenly got three kids that all needed car seats at the same time (2 by adoption, then presto, wife gets pregnant). No way three car seats could fit in the mustang.
On occasion, I have had to put a car seat in the back of the mustang to transport one of the kids. Seems like a forward facing seat fit in just fine. I'm not sure a rear facing one would. Sad to say, but mustangs just aren't family cars. Harry |

Re: Infant car seats in Mustangs
Dude....I feel your pain.....I've got a 96 V6, a 4 mo old, and a 3 yr old. front facing behind driver works fine. for the little one we use one of the carseats with a base and leave off the base. have to sit the wifee straight up but not scooted all the way up. hopefully, he'll get big fast so I can get another foward facing seat.

Re: Infant car seats in Mustangs
I just need seatbelts. My 1964 1/2 doesn't have any seatbelts and I am trying to figure out if rear belts can even be installed! Any suggestions for that? And congrats on the baby!

Re: Infant car seats in Mustangs
no1kennyfan, if you get an answer let me know, I'm having the same problem. I have a 65, the rear seat has slots where I could feed through a belt, but no bolt studs underneath to bolt the strap down to. frustrating. This is why mustang sally never had kids!

It might be hard to access the rear area if in a hurry to extricate the baby... they're really not meant as family cars. It'd be better to reserve the Stang for cruising as a couple and drive the baby in something else. |

Re: Infant car seats in Mustangs
You don't wanna put your small kids in these cars..theres' absolutely NO side-impact protection, and bucket seats make it even more unsafe for a small child to be in the car in the event of an accident. A cousin of mine recently had two little girls and THEN bought his 2005 GT when he moved to Florida..I've never heard the topic of car seats in his Mustang come up, my little 11 year old neice wants a ride in my GT and I would never do it, the car just does'nt provide enough protection for the way other people drive these days.

Actually mustangs are one of the safest cars out there, They have a very high impact test rating. Wow, 11 and you won't let her ride? My little girl loves riding in my 77 cj7. I had a 96 gt when she was a born and it was a pain but the car seat would fit. As for a solution to your problem dhg4489 just let him drive. lol |
