If Ford were to place the 5.0L back into the Mustang once again, it just might peak my interest in buying another new Mustang. I'm not sure how succuessful a high volume crate engine will be considering the 5.0 was retired over a decade ago.

Wondering if it will be OHC or push rod? A DOHC 302 would be immensely appreciated by a lot of us.

It is a push rod motor. They have different horspower ratings all the way up to 500hp 331.
You can get a DOHC 302 right out of the Ford catalog ready to run. I think they are like 13k though. These motor are from 4600 to 10k.

I wondered whether or not it would be OHV or OHC as well, but when you look at the block, you can clearly see the lifter bores in the galley.

I had to make sure that it was OHV before posting because I would much rather have a 5.0 OHV V-8 than some OHC imposter. I don't know how I feel about resurrecting the 4.00x3.00 302ci V8 in OHC form. It seems kinda wrong.

I think it'd be sweet to have a 5.0 dohc engine, especially if it would mount right up to the stock 302 motor mounts and everything else. I dont believe I would ever be able to afford one, but hey, still cool, haha.

Smile Re: The BOSS is back

I think bringing back the "boss" is great, I too was at SEMA and noticed that Mopar has a huge performace push, they are all about the new 392 hemi and doing their best to resurect the sport. after being at SEMA if forsee a muscle car war reminceint of the 60's once again... It is an exiting time if you ask me.

On the same note, I agree that ford should some effort into developing some bolt in crate engines for the new mustang.. how cool would that be? a OHC or DOHC 302 or 351 that bolts directly in place of the 4.6 with little computer mods... if they have already done this they should start to push it into the market.

just my two cents...
