Sounds like one time I got pulled over. The cop pulled me over for doing 54 in a 45 zone. Then he noticed that my tail lights were out. After that, he noticed my car was smoking (bad vlave cover gaskets at the time) AND he said something about my exhaust being too loud due to a "city ordinance" (but no such ordinance exists...how odd). He was actually really polite and nice. He only wrote me a ticket for the tail lights and even gave me 10 days to get them fixed without a fine.

Some cops are going to be dicks and some are going to be cool. Its just like everything else. I am personally trying to become a state trooper, but do you think I would be a dick like the first guy?? Nah, people are doing much worse things for me to worry about then some stupid taillights.

1966 Baby blue Coupe, 289 w/ man. 3-speed, nothing special but the fact that it is my first mustang. I am a former import guru....no more.

I've never run it except on the street, it has new wheels & tires, new exaust, and that about covers it. Looking to change a lot in the future including engine. Any ideas are appreciated.

Job description of a State Trooper:

To write tickets and work accidents.

So this means they usually will stop you for any violation they can,it is there job too.

Signed, The Police

The job description of a dentist might be to extract teeth. We certainly don't do it unless it's necessary. I think good cops feel the same way about citations. Of course there are good dentists and good cops......and then there are those others.

Some cops are cool, others are total dick heads. For example once while in a Super Stop parking lot I accidently reved the engine in my brothers GT and dumped the clutch at 4500 RPMS. I didn't see the seriffs car parked behind the coke truck. Anyway I'm haulin but and look in my rear view mirror $hit, blue lights. I got off with a warning. About a week later I put over in my car for doin 3 (yes 3) MPH over the speed limit by some $hit head Highway Potrolmen and get a $80 ticket. Go figue

Tickets. There are "Good, bad and weak" tickets. 3 mph over would probibly fall into what I call,"Weak" ticket bracket.

I write 5 mph over all the time, but I lowered them from something higher to give that person a break on points.

I guess for me to be a "Good cop" I should not write any tickets,or extract teeth? Maybe since I do write tickets I am one of those, "Other" cops.

Either way, I do not think simply writing a good, bad or weak ticket makes the (Person) good or bad, regardless of the violation.

Thanks for the flame.

Don't police officers have some discression as to whether they write tickets? If so, they should use that discression to ticket those who are driving dangerously, not just to fill a "quota". I believe they can give warnings too instead of writing up a 5 over. Most cops that I know allow a little leeway more than 5 mph, usually about 10 mph. Being strict and inflexible won't help anyone, least of all the reputation of the department.

'Rev': If you look at what 'MustangII460' wrote, he said he writes them for 5 over, but they were actually more than 5 over...
And, 'MustangII460', it's easy to be a "good cop". Just don't write ME a ticket, & you're a good cop. Right?

You're right Token. MustangII460 did say that and I just missed it. I'm sure he's a great cop and we all wish there were more like him. I didn't mean he should write no tickets at all. There are nit pickers though that write tickets on technicalities. Those are the "others". I'll bet MustangII460 knows some of them.
