This is just craptactular!
Yesterday, pulling out of the driveway, something in the engine let go in the Black Mamba. Haven't been able to pull the head yet. I hope it was just a rod, and not a piece of the piston. That way I can reuse the heads on the Cobra.
The upside is that now I will be dropping in a 351 and straping on the blower. I jsut didn't want to do it yet. Oh well, what can you do, right? ------------------ The Black Mamba 11.2@124 94 Cobra- MAC cold air fender kit, Motorsport underdrive pulley's, MAC 21/2" off-road H pipe, SVO mufflers, 3.73 gears, E-303 cam, 13.417@101.335mph |

Nope, no April fool's here. I wish it was so. My father in law and I tore into it today, but we didn't get the head off yet. We are of the opinion that it's a dropped valve. I'll post pictures by wensday or thursday.
Anyway, now we have to decide on what to replace it with. He really wants a 408, but if he goes with that, then hes scrapping the blower. And if he scraps it, guess who gets it! Can you say, "Hello 11's?" But I think he's just going to strap in a 351 with the Vortech and go from there. Whatever happens, I'll let you in on it. Later! Sounds like fun. I might just have to go and see for myself! For some reason, he likes the ego trip of the blower but then again, who wouldn't? I'm almost finished tearing it apart, would have finished last night, but had to go to work early. I'll have everything done today tho, should have pics up by tomorrow. I'm kinda scared to see what's blow'd up.......this might get expensive. Anyway, check you later.

Finally got the heads off(we've been taking our time, we're lazy), and it seems that the piston ring shattered and pieces were floating around the cyclinder. Not too much damage as far as we can see. Still have to tear down the bottom end, and see how bad the piston is.
Good news on the More Power front. After the heads get fluxed and rebuilt, they will be residing on the Cobra. The VOrtech is still up for debate, and as you can guess, I am pushing for the Cobra to get it. Go figure. I took pics of everything, but the pieces are too small to see in the photo. The way I figure it, 14#'s of boost in the Cobra, equal up to about 450 rw. Ahhhhhhhh, sweet sound of victory. More to come. I want the blower! And anything else I can
have for the Cobra. I am trying to "push" my dad and John to let me have the blower. I think they think that I won't be able to handle the Cobra, but I have driven the black mamba before it was street legal and did just fine, drove the car all the way to work(30 miles in Charlotte traffic) I think I could handle it. PLEASE let me have it! |
