Best looking and functioning spoilers?
I say the best looking spoiler and the one with the most functionality in terms of performance is the 99/00 by far. The look goes with the car and it helps handling a lot. I can't stand the way the 01's look with the ugly gullwing design. What was Ford thinking when they put this on the new Stang? It is hideous looking and doesn't work nearly as well as the 99/00 spoiler. That's just my opinion anyways. What's your thoughts?

I dought that the spoilers on the new mustangs(or any production car) are for handeling. They're just for looks

Enlighten us, exactly how does the 99/00 spoiler help handling so much? My opinion is actually the exact opposite - I think the 99/00 look like sh!t, but love the 01....and I don't think the spoilers help handling at all.

Any spoiler or lip on a car will change it's aerodynamics. Although it might only be a slight change or above or below certain speeds, you can find one that is suitable to your needs.

There are a few requirements for a spoiler to be effective. One is that is has to have alot of surface area. Another is that it has to be high enough that it is out of the turbulent airflow that is near the surface of the car.
I would guess that the stock spoilers on any of the GTs do very little to produce downforce at under 100mph. For a spoiler to be effective, it either needs to be a large lip style spoiler or a tall wing. Now the '00 Cobra R is a different story. The front air dam and rear spoiler are very effective, but whether you like the look is up to you. I have seen a magazine article where they drag tested one and removing these items actually gained them a couple tenths in the 1/4. This would indicate that they produce a decent amount of downforce because to produce downforce you also produce drag, and Ford didn't put those parts on just to look outrageous and produce drag. |

If you want one, i'd say get a whale tail, but if you just drag race, don't make yourself look like rice, its just gonna slow you daown in the quarter due to the increased drag. Only needed if you road race, and that does NOT include autocross/solo
