Pro 5.0, Hurst, or B&M ripper
any suggestions on what kinda shifter to get for a 96 5 speed mustang gt? I have heard B&M's is pretty good, but that Pro 5.0 is better. I havent heard how good Hurst are compared to the other two, but have seen them and liked them. Thanks for any help, plan on getting it today if possible. Im leaning towards the pro 5.0

I'd go with the pro 5.0. I just haven't had the chance to get one yet.

All the shifters you've mentioned are good quality and each have one or two little advantages over another but I would stick with the proven and dependable winner, the PRO 5.0 shifter.
I can tell you from my own experience, you won't be sorry. It's an excellent piece. |

I've got a Hurst and HATE IT......the shifter knob (which can't be replaced) is a plastic "cue-ball" and 3rd's as big of a bi!c& as the stocker. I've heard good things about the Steeda and Pro 5.0 shifters....I'm just waiting till I get a Tremec I guess. Should I wait?

Bad:
Yes. The Tremec requires a different shifter than the T-5 transmission. Unless you plan to go a year or more before you get the Tremec, then hang on to the Hurst, otherwise go for a new PRO 5.0 now, enjoy it (you will) then sell it for $75. or so when you get the Tremec. Your call. |

I've had my Hurst for about 9 years, and I still like it.

I have a tri-ax very stiff durable shifter have not missed third yet. Pro 5.0 is also a good shifter never had a pro 5.0 but heard good things. Can't go wrong with these shifters.

I have the hurst on my GT and it's a B/TCH! I don't really like it and yes 3rd gear is real hard to get into when youve got your foot into it. Although i do like the position of the shifter relative to my hand and it's kinda hard to get it in gear sometimes (especially reverse). I'd rather have a Steeda Tri-ax or Pro 5.0 though.

TRI-AX all the way. Everyone that plays with mine is in awe... its a short throw plus it is slammed as low as it can go for tiny, quick shifts.
