What to do with $1,000
I have a '91 5.0GT w/auto, all stock. What does everyone recommend I do with $1,000 in performance upgrades? I'm not looking for just straightline 1/4 mile stuff but for everyday driving. Oh yeah, I'm not too mechanically inclined so i will not be tearing into the engine.
thanks Tom |

Let's see........what would I do with $1 grand, and a stock GT? Headers, gears, and a cold air kit. That should about do it.
Then again, gears, cold air intake, and cat-back. You know, $1 grand ain't what it used to be. Oh, as far as the gears go, 3.73 or 4.10:1 sounds about right. They run in the $300 range installed. Headers go for about $200, and the cold air is roughly $250. that way you should have some gas money 'til you can save up for some heads, intake, cam, sub frames, 4 wheel disc(Cobra 13"), 75mm MAF, 70mm TB, shift kit, Springs, shocks, ah.... too much to list. Ask anyone and they'll pretty much think the same thing. |

Make the check out to Bradley Jones adn send it to me. No really i'd go with the gears, cold air kit, and catback. AFter that go for an off road h-pipe. That'l make that cat back talk to ya then.

1.Ford motorsport 9mm Plug SP wires $40
2.Accel Cap and rotor kit $18 3.BBK Cold Air Kit, Fenderwell Mount: $160 4.BBK Off-Road H-pipe: $160 5.CatBack exhaust(american thunder kit)$230 6.Exhaust installion: $60 7.Change the oil filter and oil $25 8.Change Tranny Fluid $50? 9.BBK Subframe connectors $90 10.SFC Installation $30? 11.BBK/FMS Strut Tower Brace $110 Grand total: so far: $973.00 I would say the shipping from Jegs or wherever you order your parts from would put you right under $1000. You should be plenty happy with those mod's for a while. And since your not mechanically inclined, I'd stay away from the headers for now, that's a pretty big job for someone that hasn't done them before. Plus the power gains are minimal when your close to stock. With those mod's your car will have a nice tune up, it will be running good, it will breathe alot better, sound great, and it will be a much tighter car. And those mod's will get you ready for mod's to come. Keep us updated, and good luck with your car!
