Ford says no 1964 1/2's. Only early 1965's hee, hee.

LOL, this is getting to be more like a science debate. You are correct, the 1964 1/2 was just an early model 1965.

4. For a bonus, what was the year NO V-8 was available, and what was the top engine option that year?

5. What was the most powerful engine option available in a Mustang in 1986, and how much horsepower did it make?

6. What year was the roller cam introduced into the 5.0HO?

7. What was the first V-8 engine option in the Mustang, and what model year was it made available?

8. Which came first, the Boss 302 or the 351 Cleveland. Of the two, which had the most aggressive heads?

9. About how many CFM does a stock 1969 Boss 302 head flow on intake? A. 200cfm B. 245cfm C. 290cfm D. 335cfm.

10. What was the 427FE's most direct predecessor?
1. The SROD is actually an updated version of Ford's beefy Toploader 4spd. The SROD in the Mustang featured a weaker aluminum case, along with a different (undesireable) gear ratio than the original.

2. The SROD was placed into the Jeep's in the early 80's as well. Unlike the SRODs used in the Ford cars, the Jeep SROD is more closely related to the original Toploader with it's cast steel case, and 1:1 4th gear.

3. Answered by TXinPA, 1964.5-1967, 1974, and 1980-1981 were the only years up until 1996, when the Windsor V-8's were silenced by the Modulars. RIP.

4. Again answered correctly by TXinPA, the first year of the Mustang II, 1974, featured only two engines. The base 2.3L I-4, and the 2.8L solid lifter V-6.

5. Although TXinPA was correct about the car, the 1986 SVO 2.3L intercooled turbo 4 cylinder made 205hp, not 145. The SVO's had 175hp from 1984 to late 1985 when the intercooler was placed on and power was bumped to a rated 205. That gave the SVO a slight edge over the lowered rating from 1985 to 1986 on the SEFI 5.0HO, then standing at a modest 200hp.

6. This question was not answered, I'm a little suprised, it was misnumbered in TXinPA's response. The 1985 5.0HO got a roller cam that helped boost hp ratings up from 175 in 1983-1984 to 210hp!!

7. Both crazy horse gt, and TXinPA get the kudos on this one. 1964 1/2 (or early 1965's) got the 260ci V-8. Later in the 1965 run it was replaced by the stronger 289.

8. Again crazy horse gt, and TXinPA get this one right. The Boss 302 came before the 351C. The Boss heads were slightly more aggressive than the 351C 4V heads, which is one of the reasons Ford chose to use them for the ultra rare 1971 Boss 351.

9. The answer is C. The Boss 302 heads flowed about 290cfm or so right off the factory line. (That's more than allmost all Windsor heads can even be ported to.)

10. TXinPA took a guess, and it was a reasonable one. The 428 is not the predecessor to the 427, though. That belongs to the 406FE built in the early 60's. Some 406's even used the cross bolted mains like the 427 to follow.

Looks like we've got a gal on this site who knows a thing or two about Ford and isn't afraid to show it. Good job TXinPA. Some help from Marty as well.

Cool

LOL. I don't have all the answers Marty, that's for sure. A lot of book numbers references and what not, but when it comes to modding the engine and what combos just click from experiance, that's when guys like PKRWUD, Dan McClain, Skyman, 88workcar, SaleenGTS, exgmguy, jimberg, and a ton of others who I've slighted by not mentioning come in.

My cars not all modded up, and to tell you the truth, I don't really like working on cars anymore. I spent almost every weekend that something cool was going on alone in my garage crankin wrenches on something from about the time I was 16 to 22 or so. This latest stang has given me very little trouble, and what did go out was normal wear, or the idiot before me messed it up. Like when he put in a crappy junkyard tranny that was messed up on the inside. At least I have experiance with all the maintenance, engine swaps, and changin busted up pieces of junk. LOL. I think I'd trade for first hand experiance with some of those engine combos. HA!

just offering, some info when they started the concept of the mustang, it started as a modified falcon, then they decided to call it the cougar, but it came out as the mustang, mercury picked up the cougar name, based off the mustang but was a couple of inches or so longer on the overall wheelbase.

------------------yes 67 was the first merc cougar, my first fomoco car was a 69 cougar it was what turned me into a blue oval fan, no matter how much i dogged it would'nt blow up , it was a tough s.o.b. see ya.

****** !

My boss decided to race this past weekend in order to get ready for the last two points races of the season (we're the points leader, but our lead is less than 600 points), so I've been away from the Mac for a few days. Oh well.

Take care,
-Chris
