![]() okay look i'm the one who started this and i apologize for it. it aint caused nothing but arguments and i should have knew that was goin to happen. But i would like to comment about Mr. 5.0's reply. you said it was a "ricer" film. correct mee if i'm wrong (which i maybe) but a "ricer" is someone with a slow car and puts wings, tips, and others to make it look fast but its slower than my dead grandmother. the cars in the fast and furious were moded and did go fast. i know its hard to get a 4-banger into the 10s but a movie is like a book you got to use your imagination alittle, you know everything aint right but hey, thats what makes it interresting. who wants to see a movie with alot of slow cars racing? no one, thats why they said they ran in the 10s. another comment is about what Tony said. i'm agreeing with him. it seems if it aint a mustang ya'll seem to find something wrong with it and put it down. dont get mee wrong here i love my mustang, but it aint the greatest car i have ever driven, in fact i'm selling it. soo all i'm asking is to have some respect for the "ricers" they love there cars just as much as we love ours. we're just "boys with our toys"

![]() There is one thing they could have done to make the movie a little more enjoyable for us domestic guys. It comes down to this. In the import world there are the 'ricers' and then the guys who really know how to make an import fast. Here at MW we mostly despise the ricers and many of us appreciate the the guys who know there stuff.
The movie had no comparison between these two classes. What I mean is that all we saw was about a half dozen 10 sec street-driven imports. If they had a few 18 sec rice mobiles, it would have given a comparison between the two classes of import drivers. Without this, at least in my opinion, they seemed to fall into the ricer category. The leaders of the ricer world where every hooked import runs 10 sec's, speedo's jump from 120 to 140 when switching gears, and the floor boards will fly off if you have too much power.

![]() There are several import cars that are very nice. There are also people that race normal imports (like Civics and CRX's) and they are just as cool as a mustang owner (well maybe not quite ![]() It's like looking at a 10 ton truck and a feather and arguing over which one is heavier. I find it very frustrating. ![]() I'm just glad that the Mustang (and Camero for that matter) have reached to the younger crowd and have kept the "dream" alive. Quote:

![]() Hey personally I don't mind imports at all. My Honda is an import, and my bike is an import. No biggie. What DOES bother me is not even mistakes (like car switches and editing, etc) but blatant, stupid comments...such as "I need TWO bottles of NOSS". This is what most knowledgable auto euthansists view as incorrect nomenclature (such as calling a copy machine Xerox), and it is implying that TWO bottles of n2o actually mean more horsepower. That is retarded. I love any movie with a car chase, race, burnouts, etc. But there is a limit to the "sensational" element in a film...especially when kids attempt to go out in real life and imitate actors. After a while the believable factor wanes, and so does the interest in the movie. I love any car as long as its fast...but civics chasing down a tractor trailer to steal parts? That is something a 12 year old would write for shits and giggles...which is exactly why FATF was really appealing to the younger crowd. I especially loved the part about offering sexual favors for winning a race...get real. If this really happened, you probably couldn't even get within 2 miles of your local "spot" due to the traffic jam ![]() Spaceships are faster than Mustangs ![]() |

Now someone who races imports and is a true car enthusiast will ALWAYS get respect at this web site. That is one of the reasons this site is one of the best. However "ricers" trying to pretend they are car people (no matter what they drive import or domestic) will never get any respect (atleast from me). |

![]() "ricers" want attention plain and simple. they don't want their car to be fast, they want it to stand out. and they do it by making it loud (not to be confused with fast) by means of 4" exhuast tips and $3K sound systems, eye catching/squinting with bright/rediculous paint schemes and chrome rims, and making it "look" fast (or so they think) with bodykits, 2 foot high spoilers, and by making it essentially glow in the dark with neons and crap.
"rice" is not a specific overall group of car guys. like it's been said before, "rice" is a state of mind. people create "rice" to create attention to themselves. and you know what? it works. it doesn't necessarily bring them respect, but they still get the attention they desire. mainly because they inferiorate true enthusiasts like us Stang lovers. and it's huge discussions like this that give the "rice world" exactly what they want. FATF did what it set out to do. someone said they didn't like the movie simply because it was over-advertised. name a huge movie hit that WASN'T overadvertised. Gone in 60 secs was advertised just as much as the FATF was. it made a TON of money, that's the only reason they made it was to make big money on it. i mean c'mon people, it's a ******* MOVIE for cryin out loud!! so what's the big deal? true enthusiasts who know their stuff shouldn't be mad at the makers of that movie because bottom line is, we should just let the morons that think that movie is 100% true to life keep RIGHT ON thinking that. there's nothing that we'll ever do to make them think it's a bunch of BS entertainment. if they're dumb enough to believe it, do you really think they'll listen to us try to tell them it's way past even being close to the truth? don't think so. if they want to be ignorant, LET THEM and just go about your day, geez.

Yes, the cars in 'The Fast and the Furious' were modded and did (allegedly) 'go fast' - but they were almost ALL Japanese cars with a stray VW or two and with the awesome Dodge Charger at the end. Now, to me, that constitutes a 'Ricer' film. Wild graphics and all the race equipment on a Japanese vehicle is 'rice'. The fact that the little Honda may be actually modded and run strong is a mitigating factor but it's still Rice-A-Roni to me and almost every car in 'The Fast and the Furious' was a foreign car with all the 'ricer' trappings. To make it easier, here's my precise definition of RICE: A standard issue car - regardless of origin - is not rice. It's just a car. Once you put the ricer crap on it - no matter the make - it's rice. That would include giant wings, 4" exhaust tips, huge wheels with no-profile tires, 'racing' stickers, garish paint jobs, 22 gauges, etc. You know what I mean here but I just want to be precise. The fact that you have all this crap on your car - especially a Japanese car - and it runs fast (very rare on the street - as you know) simply makes it a 'ricer' - that runs quick. I've seen a lot of very fast American cars (Mustangs, Camaros, Buick GN's and Corvettes) that are near-stock looking and run 12's on the street. No one needs an absurd giant wing, oversized wheels or garish paint jobs to go fast. That's 'rice' and it's bogus. A roll cage, yeah, some functional gauges, yeah, big tires - to a point - but the rest is just clownish and I call it rice. If no one else does, fine. Low et - even fake numbers such as that riced-up movie presented us with - doesn't change that definition for me. That is my basis for calling 'The Fast and the Furious' a 'ricer' film. To me, it was. |

![]() Flame wars? All I see is people stating their opinions
![]() ![]() BTW...in case you didn't see that HUGE box on top of your first reply screen (click edit) that says "Delete this Thread?" you can go there and delete the post. I quite frankly don't see the point...I like seeing other people's opinions on the movie. |
