My guess is about $34,000. for the coupe and $37,000 for the convertible. Plus sales tax (over $2,000. in my state) and whatever else the dealers can find to jack up the price.

Out-the-door price on a coupe will probably be close to $37,000., 40 large on a ragtop.

Worth it? I dunno. Maybe.

A base-model 2002 C5 (350 HP) runs almost $41,000. and carries a cachet that even a Mustang Cobra can't (quite) match at this date.

A Z06 model runs $49,000. but offers 405 HP and fantastic performance across the board.

Frankly, the Cobra - at $35,000. or so - isn't really an affordable car any more and if I was going to get into that kind of spending for a vehicle I might as well think about the base 'Vette with it's higher resale and one-of-a-kind status.

Since I can't come close to affording either one I'll just stay with my trusty old '90 LX but if I was buying new I would still go with a Mustang GT. Not a 'Vette or a Cobra but affordable and with a few mods it can be an easy 13-second daily driver which is what the Mustang has always been about, anyway.

i look at it as "there is no reasonable price". new cars are too much money! but if i had an income of 55 or more a year, then i would say 29,900 would be my price. personally that is roughly what i would pay Ford. i can build one cheaper, except maybe for IRS. i have seen the rear of a Cobra go for about $2500, so maybe it could be done?

I'll post on this topic again and offer soem more insight after seeing one of these super cars at WFC5 in St. Louis two weeks ago. I was at first sceptical of the cars ability and performance. Yes we are talkin 390 stock Hp without playing with fuel and air mixtures, headers, ignition and other basic mods that we all do. 390 Hp stock is a great thing. BUT, look at Dan's or Nicolles cars. These cars are capable of making alot more than 390 Hp. I know they arent a Cobra but who really cares. I am going out on a limb here and am going to say that neither Dan or Nicolle have $35 thousand invested in they're cars. I am sure they ahve spent aot of money for the performance and quality of car they have but not $35 grand. I am just becoming more and more disgusted everyday with the over pricing of vehicles. Yes I understand that the dealers must make money, this is how they are able to continue selling cars. I understand that, just because the car has something special doesnt mean they can jack the price up as much as they do. I recall looking at a Prowler at the local Dodge place just to see one. I specifically rememebr the $44,000 MSRP and the $76,000 dollar sticker price.

Sorry to get off on a rant, these cars are very nice but I had rather take half the money, build twice the car and have the fun and enjoyment of beating the mid-life crisis jokers that will be able to afford these cars on the street.

Thank you and I return the soap box to you.

Brad

Last time I talked to the guys at Santa Margurita Ford (Orange County, CA) they were not marking up any SVT cars. They also sold Roush and Saleen cars, all three next to each other. Worth a call if you live in Southern CA. I know I'll be getting my '04 from them.

I would think $30,000-$32,000 would be a fair price for them..... Free would be fairer to me though!!!!

They are asking $4,000 over sticker for the coup and vert in Greensboro, NC. The salesman said they have sold a few of them. Funny, the same two cars have been sitting in the showroom and I have yet to see on on the road.....

Also, they are asking $10,000 over sticker for the Thunderbird.

I'm not much into paying the "idiot tax", so I guess I won't be getting one soon...
