You are going to switch back to a V-belt??? I wouldn't. Your gonna have to use a different water pump, because the serpentine belt pump is a reverse direction pump.

Take care,
~Chris

Oh. I was under the impression that this engine was coming with the belt driven accessories on it.

Take care,

EarleBishop42: no
EarleBishop42: otherwise we would have left it in place
EarleBishop42: (sans the flexplate and harmonic balancer)

You're going to have to get a new gear for it. Your old one is cast, and the cam in the new engine is billet steel, and requires the distributor to have a matching billet steel gear. If you don't, the cast gear will get chewed up quickly.

Take care,
~Chris

Actually, I'm talking with her fiance through her. At least I think I am. I'm starting to get kinda confused.

Take care,

He doesn't have to. Just make sure that gear gets changed before the distributor goes in. Chewed up pieces of cast iron floating around your valvetrain isn't a whole lot of fun.

Take care,
~Chris

EarleBishop42: aye

Yeah, that wouldn't be a good thing. I had pieces of metal from the cam cover in my first engine, caused a horrible oil leak. Took that in to find out what was wrong w/ it. That was the original 289. The previous owner messed it up when he put a new cam shaft in.

I lost a carb nut down the intake of my 403 Buick, and these are the pieces I found in my oil pan (along with the cracked piston top, the bent rod, and a broken tranny yolk {from another night}):

It was cool though. It gave me the excuse to build the race engine for it.

Take care,
~Chris
