Who else is namless to their father?
I just find this kinda odd. My dad hasn't called me Josh since I was 12 (except when I'm in trouble). He simply refers to me as "hot rod"
Anybody else's dad do that?

my brother and I are both "bub" - short for Bubba.
It gets a little annoying and confusing when we are all working together...

My Dad's a prick. It's his loss.
Sorry to hear you're in the same boat, but if he is anything like my Dad, you're better off (believe it or not). My Mother, on the other hand, is the greatest woman on Earth. Take care, -Chris

Take advantage of what time you have with your father, because when he is gone you will wish that you did. I lost my dad in 1997
not a day goes by that i don't think of him. We where very close and did everything together. He always called me runt because going up i was always smaller then any one else. |

speak for yourself. Not everybody has a good relationship with thier father for various reasons, myself included. I speak to my dad maybe twice a year, and thats just fine by me. |

I'm going to 'speak for myself', and agree with alien1.
I lost my dad in 91 to cancer. We had never been close, (as in never). I probably saw/talked to him more those last couple of weeks, watching him die in a hospital then I ever had my whole life. What a stupid, stupid life I lived. Now unfortunately I'm making the same mistake with my own son. I'd give anything to have my father back. Hopefully I can be a little different, (i.e. more understanding/loving, etc), with my own kid.............but it's hard. You younger guys just don't know what it's like not to have a dad, until he's gone. You'll miss him worse then anything. I promise you that. Play hardcore, hardass, whatever you want to call it. He's your dad. Even if he's a prick, or doesn't seem to understand you, he's still your dad. flame suit on. |

I think were all aware that "he is your dad"....its just that people who have a poor relationship with thier fathers are less prone to miss them when thier gone. Common sense, thats all. The closer you are to him, the harder it will be. Im not saying it wont be hard when you dont have a good relationship with him, because it will be no matter what, because he "is your dad" as you said .
Now I think to tell people to "get close" to your dad or else you will regret it is wrong, because some people CANT get close to thier dad. Thats the problem. Its not what you want to do, its just the way things are in some cases. |

Absolutely. No argument from me there whatsoever.
I'm just saying, that if you can, and it's possible, to make use of your father. Use him for everything that you can. Advice/love/money/whatever you can get, and whatever he'll give. I'm just trying to give MY point of view on how I'd of LOVED to have done everything different if I could have. Every situation is different. The thing I absolutely hate is when guys/gals come off trying to play hardass (or at least sound like it), and make it sound like it's all their dads faults. At best it's 50/50. I was there.................done that................regret it to this day.................. Make the best of it. Appreciate life for what it's worth, whatever your personal scenario................ |
