Post underbody coating and storing in winter?

Hey everybody, did a search for it and no luck.
Does anybody think underbody coating protects against rust under the vehicle. When i bought my car I did not know too much about it so did not spend the money. Also I live in wisconsin and three months a year there's lots of snow on the roads and salt. Should I garage it and get a winter beater or just drive it. Just curious how many people with thier mustangs " garage " them in the places with bad weather.

if you don't have any rust underneath, it will help,ck all over the under side of your car first
