Post Ernhardt dies in Daytona 500

Dale Ernhardt Sr. died from injuries in that bad wreck in the Daytona 500. What a loss to us all. We all know it can happen, but what a hurtful thing when it does occur. I know we all feel the family.

Indeed. I'm absolutely speechless.

when celebrities die i'm ambivalent, but Dale is somehow different. A childhood hero and mainstay (for me and others) is gone. unbelieveable.

I'm not his fan, but I have alot of respect for him and what he's brought to the sport.

My prayers to his family and the other drivers. A terrible day for NASCAR.

Wow...I just heard that on the news. I know a lot of people watch NASCAR just for the crashes but I can't remember the last time somebody died. Especially someone with the prestige of Dale Ernhardt. Like I said in my last post, I've never been into NASCAR racing, but any friend of racing in general will surely be missed.

It is unfournate that he was killed today. I know my hometown of Kannapolis nc is going to feel this for along time since he is from here. The worse thing of this all is there are so many people now that will try to profit from his death. He was never a favorite of mine, (he drives a chevy) but I his family will be in my prayers.
Kannapolis will be full of mourning fans this week, more then seen at races at Lowes Moter Speedway.

NASCAR lost a legend today. He will be greatly missed. Was it just me or did the wreck not look that bad. I totaly expected him to get out of the car and walk away. What is sad is that he could have been leading the race, but he blocking so that Waltrip could win his first race. God bless you Dale

I was watching the race, when I saw him crash I did not think it was that bad. Unfortunetly I was wrong.

"The race was the season-opening event for NASCAR, which had three driver deaths last year.

Busch Series driver Adam Petty, the grandson of stock-car great Richard Petty, was killed in May in Loudon, N.H., in May. Two months later, Winston Cup driver Kenny Irwin also was killed at New Hampshire International Speedway.

NASCAR truck series driver Tony Roper was killed in October at Texas Motor Speedway."

Take a minute and say a prayer for Dale and his family, I know I will.

Rest In Peace Dale.

I've been watching Nascar racing for quite awhile now,and ever since I can remember,Dale was always the Intimidator, always pushing himself to the limit, which is what racing is about.

Many people didn't like him because of his competetive nature, but one has to realize,he was out to win,not only for himself and his teammates, but because it was also his lively-hood,that what he did so well, was the way he provided for his wife and 4 kids.I always respected him and what he brought to the sport itself. Not only has the sport lost a great person, but also his fans, and his family...

The crash didn't even look that tramatic...I can't see how he died when I have seen worse crashes and people have walked away with minor scrapes and scratches.

Inferno-
The reason the impact of Dale's crash is worse than rollover crashes is because in a head-on crash with the wall there is a massive deceleration from 190MPH to zero in a matter of seconds. That is just too much force for the brain to take.

In a rollover crash energy is dissipated more with each hit and the car decelerates much slower than in a head on crash.

God bless Dale!

Basically your brain floats around inside the cranial cavity inside a membrane filled with a small amount of fluid. When your head is going 190+ and all of a sudden it rapidly decelerates to 0, your brain slams against the front of the skull, and it causes nasty hemmoraging and swelling. There's not a whole lot of room in there for swelling so alot of times the pressure does you in before the bleeding can.

Anyway, it is a great loss whenever anyone dies expecially in a motorsport related crash. I wish Dale's family the best.
