Default goin carb

OK heres the deal. My car has been driving me absolutely nuts for the past year. Ive replaced all kinds of crap, had someone run codes for me, and nothing works. The hel with it, Im goin carb. I can get a nice speed demon 650 with line for 300 bucks, I was thinking about a performer rpm manifold, and I already have the ported gt40's. Does this sound like a decent combo. I still have stock cam for now. Also, for you guys thathave done it, what pump and regulator works good for you? Im trying to get all my stuff together before I start. I am gonna pick up an msd 6al as well, and I already have the msd mech. advance dist.Thaniks for any imput, John

Thanks Wade. Do you think that combo sounds ok for now, at least until I have time to upgrade later? Thanks, John

I went to carb last year, much easier...the RPM is a good choice for intake, that and the Weiand Stealth will run hard,Comp has a great Windsor grind for Carbed Stangs, give them a call and see what they have for you, mine runs 12's with Edelbrock heads on it.

How is your fuel system set up?

I would use the new RPM air gap over the old RPM. The 650 speed demon will be a good streetable carb and good performance when you get on it.
The fuel system can be done many ways. I just thought of this idea and it may be worth looking at... Aermotive sells adapters for the stock 5.0 fuel lines and has a -AN fitting on the other end. They are ment for there fuel rails but It should work for a carb setup to. If you get there universal "bypass" FPR you can adapt it to the fuel lines with your basic -AN fitings. This way you can use your stock fule line, return line, and pump which will save you allot of time and cash.

I'm in the process of going carb right now. I am using the Mighty Demon 650 and a Weiand Stealth intake.

Your combo sounds pretty good, just make sure to stay away from vaccuum secondaries. Mechanical is the most reliable IMO.

My fuel system - I had an A1000 pump from when I was EFI, all I have to do is get a new regulator and I can still use the same set up.

Any questions, fire away.

Ross

Roscoe - How'd you run your line from the pump around the tank? Did you just loop around the side (by the inlet) or go over the tank?

I'm in the process of going carb and my fuel system is 1/2" aluminum line from my regulator (Holley) to just about my tank, then its braided -8 to the pump(Holley Blue)/filter and -8 to the sump. I'm debating my intake tho. RPM Air Gap, or Torker 289 (ported old style), with a 650 Holley double pumper.

The line is just run next to the tank, under the filler neck up the rails. I am using -10an all the way up to the reg, and an -8an return line. I used a 90 deg fitting on the return (which dumps where the old lines went into the top of the tank). That uses a 5/8" fuel line, 1/2" return.

Save a bunch of money - use only 2 foot of stainless braided on the first few feet at the tank, regulator, and carb. Use aluminum line for the length of the car. Fittings are cheaper than ss braided line.

You may need to go to a higher Vacuum power valve, say an 8.5,is your launch good? or does it stumble?I run 67/76's in my Holley 650 and it's just right.check for vacuum leaks also.
