Post Gone in 60 Seconds

I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!! This movie is flat out awesome! But, like everyone else that has seen it, I have to be a critic! Firs tof all, in the first chase scene, do they honestly think we would believe that a Honda Civic would keep that close to a Porsche 911 turbo? Now, if the Civic had a turbo, it would be closer than without one, but that Civic had exhaust, and intake, but no turbo. Now, jump ahead to the last chase scene, with the replica GT500. That Bimmer would not keep like it did with that beautiful car. What's more insulting is how well those crown vic cop cars were keeping up with it! Do you all feel the same way?

What do I think I think Angelina Jolie (forgive my mispelling!) is a perfectly good reason to get into car theft and later this year a perfectly good reason to start mulling around dusty old places filled with traps, bugs, and other "icky" stuff

Besides that, I liked Gone in 60 Seconds the whole dang way through. (When the action is good I don't sweat the details)

I watch this movie once a weekend, at least.

In the opening scene, that is not a Civic, it is a AWD Subaru something.

One of my favorite parts is when Nick is going through the alley with that cop, he hst 3rd gear and fly's by him, HOLY **** I love that!

Well, thanks, now I have to go and watch it again

dude, watch the movie again, closely. I watch it at least once a day (no life). It is a two door honda civic with a giant wing on the back.

in fact, i just watched it again, with the dvd, paused it, and zoomed in....definitely a honda civic. a friend of mine who worked in a honda dealership watched it too, and he said it is definitely a honda, with a body kit...look at the tail lights, you can't put different shaped ones in, you can only change the color.those are definitely honda taillights. The subaru taillights wrap around the back of the car.

I got the DVD for Christmas because I was spending too much on the rental. My girlfriend has a 99 Civic and she is the one that pointed out the fact that the blue car in the beginning was also a Civic. Trust me, my pause button is WORE OUT from looking over and over. I just didn't want to believe that they put that in the movie as the opening race, but........they did. It is a Civic.

everyone now needs to go get the original gone in 60 seconds, its just as good. The beginning is like a 70s porno with dubbed over audio, but its a great movie

Thumbs up

Man I laugh every time I see the civic racing the porsche. I think the firebird V6 they ride in to steal the porsche would be a better match for the F1 civic
As far as the BMW and the crown vics keeping up with the 500...I don't think the 500 was all that fast in stock form. I don't know what kind of mods they have on it but I do know they have a special suspension and steering rack on it to let it handle like it does. It does have an exhaust and cam for sure. They had like 7 of them too.
Watch the speedo in the movie though. It is like totally off when he is accelerating. it takes him forever to get up to 100 and then he hits the nitrous and does this knight rider turbo boost up to 200 mph or something and leaves sight of the helicopter lol.

If a turbo Civic can't keep up with a Porsche, then neither can a Mustang.

it wasn't aturbo civic. no turbo on it at all. natural aspiration, and it kept up. just a movie i tell myself. And that speedometer thing, you are dead on dude. I watched the making of the movie (one of the special features on the DVD) and they said that to make it look like he was going faster than he really was, while a normal tape reel speed is 24 fps (frames per second), they sped it up to 16 fps. This makes it appear 40% faster. there were also alot of computer generated images too.

Had to add this in. Got this from a website, don't know how accurate, but figured I'd share it anyway.
428 Cobra Jet, made 355 horses. with an auto, a c-6, 0-60 was 7.0 seconds. with the top loader four and drag pack, 0-60 was 6.2. So no, it isn't the fastest car in the world, but it was one of the fastest of it's time.

I agree with you on it being really fake acceleration in the movie, but you actually can outrun those helicopters. Most civilian helicopters, like the police use, can't break 100, and the rest don't go any faster then about 120. So if you are ever in a chase in you 200 mph stang, you can beat em, as long as its a straigh road, cause the heli can cut corners :-)

That's not my biggest problem with the acceleration thing.

Take a look at the tach guys. He's doing like 8k on a 428????? hehe, not a prayer. Then he hits the nitrous and accelerates from 110-160?? That'd be like 12000rpms or something. Jeez... That's a joke.

As far as the Shelby GT 500SS not being very fast in stock form. All it did was spin. You'll have to look at the trap speeds to understand how hard that car can accelerate. I wouldn't doubt with the mango cam that thing had it'd run through the traps at 110. Course, you'd never see a 428 turn over 7000rpm's either.

86LX5liter, I never said that the Civic in the movie was turbo....I was just making a general statement aimed at those that believe that you can't mod a Civic to keep up with or beat a Porsche.

Have you ever seen a street driven , street tired civic, that didn't have a turbo, turn 12's in the quarter? or better yet, 0-60 in 4.5 seconds on wet pavement? That is my point. The porsche was a Carrera 4 Turbo. You could hear the thing spool up over the exhaust. My point is that the civic kept up with the Porsche in those conditions, and it didn't have the mods it would have needed to do what it did. That was my point. I have seen some scary fast imports. I have been beaten by scary fast imports. You just don't see them everyday is all.

All find and dandy, except I never argued about the fact that the Civic could keep up with the Porsche....once again, it was a general statement based on some of the other responses in this thread. Also, there are some cars out there that can run 12's all motor, but I am not sure on the 0 to 60. I happen to know one(and only one) that is capable of doing that. And yes, it is daily driven.

Well I've seen the movie a couple of times and I think it get's better every time. The first time I saw it was in the theatre, and I dunno about the rest of you, but whether or not a few details were way off, the movie is still sweet. I'm glad Hollywood gave Ford and the Mustang a nod with all those other sweeeet vehicles.

All in all, hopefully this will get alot of people excited about fine automobiles. And create alot of interest, especially with the younger crowd(scary too though heh).

I just hope "Fast and Furious" doesn't get ricers too excited and too bold.

Favorite parts: the Porsche chase in the beginning; the one night boost and pretty much everything AFTER the very first time the GT 500 appears. Even the humanly impossible quarter mile jump over the huge accident on the bridge was kinda cool heh. (and the chirp of the tires with each gear change with the sweet rumble of the engine gave me chills) BTW the soundrack is pretty sweet, good for cruisin and some hard drivin' if you ask me.

Yeah i gotta pick up that soundtrack. One of my favorite sound bytes is whenever they show Sphynx, that deep bass they play. Awesome.

I am happy for you and your car. Truly. But did you see this movie? Your "blanket statement" had absolutely nothing to do with the thread. We were saying the Honda was NA, and kept up with a much more powerful car, that is all wheel drive, and with those two combined registers 0-60 times in the low 4 second range, with factory tires. That was the point.

oh, and for the h22 to make 400 hp na, that would mean an out put of 3 HP per cubic inch. That is almost unheard of efficiency.
