Vent!!!!!!
I am SO P.O'd right now about Shivvy people. WTF??? I don't mean to go off on a rant..... but......
As a general rule, us Ford guys don't go out of our way to rip on Shivvys/Mopars or whatever. Why is it that the Chevy crowd feels it's necessary to mention what a "piece of slow junk" I drive each and every time we talk? WTF is up with that??? This has been going on for a LOOOOOONG time, and today I just finally had enough of it. "Friend" of mine has a big block '69 Chevelle that's referred to as "THE car" that couldn't run a 12.99 down a mineshaft. Yet I call him this evening about something totally unrelated, it was about a video camera and some "racin" we did last Saturday night. I told him to rewind the tape and watch it before he started recording, it was some good stuff! First words out of his mouth? "Ah, it's prolly just a bunch of junky Ford bullshyt anyways!" WTF??? I was PIZZZZED! I have a naturally aspirated SMALLBLOCK Ford knocking on the 10 second door, and your BIG BLOCK can't run a 12, yet you feel it's necessary to RIP on me? Then I got to thinking about it, ALLLLLL Chevy peeps are like that!!!! Doesn't matter WHAT they can/have/will/are doing, just because my car wears a blue oval (PROUDLY!!) It's automatically a POS? That's not right. I laid down this challenge to my car club. Build a 350 Chevy, destroke it to 347 cubes, run it naturally aspirated, and I'll run you on a 10.90 heads up tree!!!! That just really PIZZED me off, and I couldn't post this anywhere other than an all Ford site, so THANKS for allowing me to vent!!!! Just for the record, yes I DO feel better now.

Re: Vent!!!!!!
I know how you feel. It goes both ways though man. When my mustang was my everyday driver i had a couple camaro guys rippin my ass, now my chevy truck is my daily driver i got ford truck guys tryin to rip my ass and dodge truck guys 2. all i got to say to the ford truck guy is have fun changing spark plugs. b/c i know its a pain in the ass. these dodge cats we got runnin around. phh. my brother in-laws new hemi truck did not impress me at all. Coming from my truck (daily commuter) that has 156k miles the hemi truck doesnt have the balls everyone says. I had a riceboy in a neon with unmatching ground effects and trombone for exhaust trying to intimidate me one day in Indianpolis road trippin in my van. My GMC Safari van will run neon's all day long. Dakota r/t's? True story a friend of mine in a 99 mustang 3.8 ran that big bad 360 back to the projects. i have a soft spot for 69' ss's in my heart though. in 1994 i was 8 it was the first car i witnessed do wheel stand. i still got the shirt 2. but i get what your saying theres no point in his talkin shit when there is evidence you would spank his big bertha. It eats a true chevy mullet man when you wear a mustang shirt and a dale jerrot hat to the "SUPER CHEVY SHOW" hehe. I hope its okay to like both. b/c i do. but its not just everyone in a crowd. theres neutral ppl like me everywhere. There's even ppl like that when it comes to riding fourwheelers. I stick with my honda's but I dont go out of my way to let a polaris, yamaha, suzuki or kawasaki guy know why I wouldnt be caught dead on his quad. I keep it to myself.
theres always guys telling me i should have got a yzf 450, but ya know i like my 400ex. I just dont feel comfortable with going through the woods or a mud hole with a radiator sittin in front of me. anyway im done rambling my non-sense. |

Re: Vent!!!!!!
Lmao! I've had a '96 4.3 Vortech Sonoma and a 95 LT-1 Formula- Don't get me started on what pieces of crap they were! Neither one had 80k on them when they broke down.... seriously!
The Formula had a nuclear meltdown at 78k when the distributor block went out and blew every sensor under the hood! It wouldn't even change into 2nd, so I was mean and traded it in w/o saying anything! The 4.3 Vortech was so screwed up from the Red Antifreeze that it couldn't be fixed... it was flushed 4 times and once flushed out of the bloody freakin' truck with no freez plugs and the radiator routed! Never ever ever ever ever ever ever again! I have 2 friends with similar stories who had camaros. Among the best cars I have owned were a 2000 civic and an 88 crx, and my new '05 4Runner. Hats off to the Japanese- until the stupid kids get ahold of the cars. Hats off to Ford for my '03 Ranger and my '89 Mustang!

Re: Vent!!!!!!
Iam not picking on GM (well maybe Iam) but I sell twice as many GM parts than I do any other manufacturer. And no its not becuase there are more of them here. This area is Ford country. Most of the oil pumpers around here run Ford and Toy Toater trucks. There are a few Chevys and Dodges in there but not very many. I like GM, they make me a good pay check LOL. They are all good until they break, all though Ive seen lots of small block Fords put it on big block Chevys. I like picken on the LS 5.0 Cameros, HAHA so funny.. (Thats just wrong) aint it.

Re: Vent!!!!!!
A buddy of mine worked in both a ford and chevrolet dealership as a technician, he says numbers of cars were about the same at both places. My electric diagnostics instructor worked in a ford dealership for 20+ years and drives chevys. doesnt make much sense 2 me. what parts store do you work at grey88gt?

Re: Vent!!!!!!
I used to work at CarQuest grey88GT and to be completely honest, I think we also sold more shivvy (namely 4.3, 305/350) parts as well as Pathfinder parts, I think Pathfinders and Shivvys kept that place in business!
Oh yeah, no offense to anyone who has an Ford Explorer, but we called them "Exploders" because we stocked so many of their parts! We figured that Truck is too big for the V6's in some models. Nastyn8- your dad must be very good driver! I have a slew of people I know as well as a couple of friends who have gotten rid of those things- but da*n when that car was running it was sweet! (for a GM that is) No telling what his Formula is worth now, does it have the Transmission Lock button? Beautiful car when it's running.

Re: Vent!!!!!!
Yeah it has the transmition perform button, i like it b/c it was the first car i ever drove that was some what quick. i think its got 76k on it now. it had 27k when we bought it. He bought it for my sister in 2000 to drive to college, she only lasted a semester. mom drove it to work (5 blocks away) now she drives a 94 marquis we bought for 1200 bucks and its like new.
its seen some hard times though. i drove it on the weekends a little from the time i was 16 to 18. i drove it like hell one night at the cruise night in mcleansboro and the next day it had a ticking. i thought it was maybe a valve but it was the the thing that is on the exhaust manifold. it looked to have got hot and just completely busted in half and was just sittin there tappin the manifold(ticking noise). i dont think its seen much more than 1k miles since mom got the marquis in march 04'. the only bad thing is its parked right by the back door of the house right next to the f$%&ing cat food. if you get real close you can see scratches everywhere. when animals start destroying expensive shit thats when its time for them to go. the interior looks brand new though. for the first 5 years of its life it never saw gravel, another state, rain, sleet or snow. she watched the weather real close and drove her moms oldsmobile when it was iffy. I wish she would have bought a 93' cobra or a saleen or something. haha its a good car but it wouldnt be worth paying for the insurance even though it get 28mpg interstate, 25 regular highway, about 21 in town unless im driving, maybe 10mpg. no offense b/c your a nice guy but all the diesel and auto instructors where i go to school talk a lot of $hit about parts guys, especially auto zone. I guess parts guys and mechanics dont get along. later |

Re: Vent!!!!!!
yeah i here ya all chevy diesel's are a horror story. anybody will tell ya that. i think there are still 2 or 3 of them 6.2 ticking time bombs in town. they have just about made it out of their trial and error stage. even though im yet to hear much good about duramax. the old ford diesels suck 2. i wouldnt mind having one of those escorts with the diesel I4 engine in it. exploders are just an accident waiting to happen.

Re: Vent!!!!!!
No offense taken, I just did it part time and when I had time through college. There are some MORONS that work at these places. I was proud to work for CarQuest because most of the store managers were either ex-mechanics or held big positions at other places and had retired. We were the only chain in North Alabama who knew how to use a freaking catalog!
I called "AutoShack" a few days ago and asked for a quote on shocks and struts for the mustang. He didn't mention the the Quads so I said, "What about those quad shocks?" He had no clue Mustangs have 4 shocks on the rear end. My friend looked it up a Advance and it's under "Axle Dampener" of all D*mn things! And don't get me started on the little girl who didn't know how to look up a Distributor. She shows me the screen and asks me what category it's under... MAN! "I'd rather push a Ford than drive a Chevy"

Re: Vent!!!!!!
yeah i bought shocks there about 2 years ago and the damn fool said there was nothing different between a 4cyl LX and a GT 5.0. about a month ago i went there to get some lug nuts and the girl behind the counter seemed puzzled after i told her the and brought the lug nut in that needed replaced. she told me to come behind the counter and look for myself. half the time autozone and oreillys brings you the wrong shit when its delivered.

Re: Vent!!!!!!
Jester,
I feel your pain, I have grew up with that crap since day one of buying my mustang at the age of 15. I came from a chevy dominated area. I think they made fun because they felt intimidated, not because I was faster, or had the coolest looking car. But I can tell you this, at any kind of car show or cruise in, the old Ford always seemed/seems to get so much more attention then the chevy's. I like the old Chevy's and even a few of the new. But I have no desire to own anything other then a stang when it comes to speed or looks. Ryan

Re: Vent!!!!!!
It boils down to who has the most money in their car. In the 80's and 90's the choice to build was a small block chevy. Tons of parts, cheap prices, went fast for cheap. The tables are turning now. Now, the 5.0 has a plethora of aftermarket pieces at discount prices.
Since the beginning of time, man has always competed with others. Be it, who can run the fastest, to the first time a motor carriage raced another down a dirt road in the west. I drive an F150 with a 6" lift and 37" tires and people still try to race me in their Chevy and Dodge trucks. I just ignore them. Don't even get me started on those Toyota truck guys! When I used to drive my stang on the street before it got too radical I had an ambulance try to race me!! People yelling at me light it up! It gets old. If you're sitting at a stoplight and some punk kid pulls up to you in his 72 primered Nova, complete with rod knock and exhaust leak, just roll your eyes at him and shake your head. He'll get the picture.

Re: Vent!!!!!!
If I get one more ricer fly by...
Da*n Kids, when I was 17 I had a 5.0 and I acted like it... now everyone owns a civic ex with a bloody coffee can muffler. (Yes I had one for daily driving in between stangs til I figured out after 6 months I was going to beat up the next kid that tried to race me!) Now I'm 26 and I give kids a lot of room- until the fly by. That might get you embarrassed... especially on prom night kiddies. Chevy isn't that bad if you like to work on cars... they will keep you busy. You can even drive your mustang over to help your friends work on their chevys... if you hang around people like that Jester, you're still da man in my book brother!

Re: Vent!!!!!!
It's not even really a Ford vs. Chevy thing. I've just noticed that it seems Chevy people go out of their way to rip on us Ford guys. I WILL NOT rip on someone else's car, unless they start it! If everyone drove a red Mustang, it'd be a pretty boring place to live, so to each his own, but I'm gettin sick and tired of gettin verbally abused everytime I talk to someone that doesn't drive a Ford. I keep telling myself that they're jealous, and so far it's kept me from reaching out and giving them "5 across the lip".
Anyways, I've enjoyed reading this thread!! Seems that everyone has there own ideas about things, and it's been making for some good reading!!!

Re: Vent!!!!!!
I agree Jester. Here about a 5 weeks ago or so, I stoped to get some breakfast. This guy pulls up in a 81-82 Camero, (that I have sold him parts for). Its a nice car, and hes put lots money into it. Theres a few ppl looking it over and I walk up and comment on the car, that he had done a good job on it, and that it sounded good. He says, Yah it likes thoughs POS Mustangs, eats them for lunch. Pissed me off bad, I wanted to knock the dog @#$$ outa him. So I ask him how fast it is. He says its a high 12, and he was running a 4.10 gear and 400 trans. I said so your getting about 8 mpg outa that POS. I then asked him how well his POS drove down a goood curvy road. No answer. Then I got his goat, I asked him why he drove a new FORD truck. No answer. Maybe to haul the Cheby home with? There all good and they all break, but damn you dont bash someone else when they just made a nice comment on your car. I told him I would stick with my 14 sec Mustang and 21 mpg. He came in the store later that day and aplogized to me. Anyway thats enough venting, I dont bash someones ride on purpose unless I know them and they know that Iam jokeing around.
