Post Heres my planned engine combo. What do you guys think?

OK I'm gonna drop a 302 into my stang around graduation time next year. Here is my planed engine combo(subject to change). Remember this is my dailey driver. Please point of any mismatches you see in my combo.

1) 1984 302 bored .030
2) forger pistons at about 9 to 1
3) comp cam 270H( or do you think a milder cam would be better)
4) Edelbrock performer RPM (or do you think a performer would be better)
5) Holley 650cfm vacuam secondary(I know it's big, but it was free)
6) E7 heads(ported, milled, 3 angle valve-job)
7) 1 5/8" long tubes
8) off-road H-pipe
9) 2800 stall
9) trans-go shift kit
10) 4.11 gears
11) eletric fan]

What do you guys think it will run in the 1/4 mile? How much HP do you think it will put out? I hopeing for mid-13's.

If your going to run an aggressive cam that builds its power from 3000 RPM-6000 and higher, you might consider a Single Plane intake manifold, or a Weiland Stealth is a real good dual plane manifold.

I'm not sure how aggressive the cam you choose is. Can you put some specs up?

Another thing, if you Mill your heads your compression is going to be higher. If your running a big cam and have a set of heads that have been serouisly shaved, check your valve to piston clearances.

I'd probably go with a piston that gives you alittle more compression. (But they start getting expensive). BUt Cam specs dictates Compression needs, and I dont know the specs of the cam.

Something else to consider is Forged pistons wiegh more then Cast and alinimum pistons. Adding unneccassary wieght to the reciprocating mass and put a drag on preformance. Do you plan drag racing at the track alot, or adding a power adder?

I crank my old 289 up kinda high in the RPM, and its got Alunimum pistons and have had no problems after 30,000 miles (Except for several burnt exhaust valves). Its got around 11:1 compression (Alittle higher than I'd like but I got a little to mill Happy with the milling machine at the machine shop)

I run 14 Degrees advance with mechanical dist advance only, no Vaccum advance. I need to switch the wieghts in the Dist before I go hooking up the Vacuum advance. But I'm having a hard time finding a wieght set for a 20 something year old Mallory Dual point.

Sounds good to me. And like merc said you don't need forged pistons unless you plan on using nitrous but they won't hurt you either.
As far as the compression ratio don't go over 9.5 to 1 is what they say for iron heads.

I decided to go with the 268H cam the specs are: 268 degrees advertised duration, 218 degrees at .050, 0.456 lift

I'm gonna go with NOS in about a year (100-150HP shot)

I'm just gonna mill the heads enough to make sure the heads are straight

Sounds on the Mild Street side...Whats the Overlap?

If your going to spray, I would go with the Forged Pistons then.

I don't know the overlap.

The specs on the 270H cam are:270 degrees advertised duration, 224 degrees at .050, .500 lift, 110 degress lobe separation.

Which cam do you think would be better, the 268H or the 270H? Can you recomend a cam?

What do you guys think it will run?
