Question Oh, you didn't know?

For some of you folks that think Nebraska is worthless....read up!

Smack in the middle of our great nation, is a state that requires some explanation. To east and west coasters who'll come right out and ask ya', "Is there anything of interest in the State of Nebraska?"

It's true we don't have mountains all decked out in snow, but we do have the world's biggest live chicken show. We're the makers of Spam. We invented Kool Aid, and this is where the first Reuben sandwich was made.

Our insect, the Honeybee. Our bird, the Meadowlark. The strobe light, our creation, works best in the dark. Governmentally speaking, we're a freak of nature, since we have the only one-house state legislature.

On Arbor Day, when you plant a tree, remember that it started in Nebraska City. We were once called a desert, but that name didn't take, since we have the country's largest underground lake.

We have the world's largest forest, all planted by hand, and more miles of rivers than any state in the land. The College World Series calls Omaha "home," and yes, this is where the buffalo used to roam (until we shot 'em).

We were the first state in the nation to finish our Interstate section, and the first to run two women in the gubernatorial election (against each other). We invented 9-1-1 emergency communication, and we're the number one producer of center pivot irrigation.

Our woolly mammoth fossil is the largest ever found, and our monumental "Carhenge" is certain to abound. We have several museums that could be called odd, dedicated to Chevy's, fur trading, roller skates and sod.

In Blue Hill, Nebraska, no woman wearing a hat, can eat onions in public. Imagine that! We built the largest porch swing and indoor rain forest, and anyone who visits is sure to adore us.

So pack up the kiddies, the pets and the wife, and see why Nebraska is called "THE GOOD LIFE."

It doesn't even say anything about football! Although this is the first season since 1961 that the Huskers have lost 5 games...

For you people that are geographically challenged....check out the attachment.

Wow, thanks for the history lesson. I never knew that Nebraska had such a colorful history.

Oh yeah, nice map.

Daniel.

Oh, and you were also targeted for a good number of Russian nukes during the Cold War. Gotta make sure and blast through all that concrete at SAC.

My grandfather was stationed there for several years. Got to work the pit.

Actually the area where I live was one of the main targets. Just outside of town we have the "igloos". The storage for many missles and ammunition were these mounds that look like igloos. You can't see them from the air, that's why they're like this. They are just covered in normal terrain like the rest of the land. There was a Sioux Army Depot just outside of Sidney, also.

There are still many missile pads scattered around here that are under close watch of the Army. I'm not sure if they're still functionable or not, but if you go within a certain distance of these things within a couple minutes you'll have a few Hummer's full of soldiers with guns coming up on you.

What's SAC silver_pilate?

Yep, SAC = Strategic Air Command.

It's located at Offutt AFB near Omaha. It's a 14,000 square foot underground facility that would serve as one of the nerve centers for national defense and government following a nuclear attack. It is hard-linked to over 200 sites world wide which and has its own underground generators and is EMP sheilded which would allow operation and communication even following a high altitude nuke blast and the accompanying EMP which would wreak havock on electromagnetcs across the nation.

They'd probably drop at least 2 high yeild strategics on the site to ensure total destruction.

Yeah, Oak Ridge is a big one, too.

During its peak operation status, Oak Ridge used more than 1/7th of the electricity output of the United States. It also housed the largest single building in the world.

Default tireburner...

have you ever been to Hawaii? I am from there and can tell you now that you would NOT be into the food there. Spam is in everything out there. I really don't like it because I know what it is, but if I didn't know the food was cooked with spam, it would be really good!

Come on, Nebraska? No one wants to visit Nebraska, lol. J/k, take care, Keith
