Default video cam to computer

The camcorder has got a usb cord and I got it hooked into the comp. Now how do I get it from the camcorder to a file / play on the comp. Im running windows xp pro

You'll probably need some software to play it onto your computer where then you can encode it to a file. Did it come with any software, or does it detect anything when you plug it into your computer?

That can be a problem.... What kind of camera is it? You can probably check there site out for some faq's and info on it.

Generally for moving video to a comp you use firewire, also called i.link and probably some other names. I know some cameras use usb only to transfer pictures that are taken and won't transfer video. This camera may be able to move video over usb, but you're going to grow old waiting for it.
