Default what do y'all think

hey y'all just wondering what you think of this: i totaled my 2000 stang, and now i'm wondering what to do with the insurance money. i'll have about 4000 to work with. should i:
1.buy a cheap(500 dollars) high mileage, four cylinder lx and drop something sick in it
2. buy a high mileage 5.0 and spray the daylights out of it.(100 shot)

which would be more cost effective?

i think u should get a cheap ass 5.0 or get the 4 cyl but i think it would ve cheaper to get a 5.0 then to put one in a 4 cyl. but i would just get some heads and an intake and a cam if you have enough later convert to carb though i prefer it but otheres will disagree

$4k? Hmm.. look for a nice used 89-92 V8 mustang, preferably a coupe. That is your best bet. If you can find one for under $4k and have money left over then get exhaust and intake(K&N air filter first).

I'd get a 4cyl with a good body and put a carbed 5.0 in it. But that's just me.

Buy a car with the 5.0 already in it. The 5.0 car was built for the 5.0, a 4 cyl car needs not only the engine swap, but you have to consider the suspension, brakes, wiring, etc. You could easily spend more on the 4 cyl car before its done than you would buying one with a 5.0 in it. Not only that, you can buy the 5.o ready to drive, Engine swaps don't always happen in a weekend, and you are left walking or begging rides until your car is done. Then there are the follow up problems that go with any time you remove an engine and put it back in. Buy a 5.0 complete!

Is this going to be your driver also? If so I would find the cleanest best fox body 5.0 I could and just mod it over time...........if not and its going to be your racer, then I would find a 5.0 car that needs a motor(cheap car), and try to find a good foundation for the car and build from there.

If it is used as a daily, I would buy a reasonably priced 5.0(5-speed for me), that runs and looks good. Spend the left over $$ on bolt-ons. I've done a 4 to V8 conversion, not really that hard, just time consuming. I don't like walking or bummin' rides if avoidable.
