Question Rodeo a "new" Extreme Sport?

I thought some of y'all would get a kick out of this. I was watching the news this morning and they were talking about the rodeo coming to Southern CA. The anchor woman referred to it as a 'new' extreme sport. Are you kidding me?

I always thought it was about boots and chaps and cowboy hats.... but there is actually some competition that goes along with it. Then get this, they said something about lasting 8 seconds. Man, where do they come up with this stuff.

Just shows how ignorant city folk can be.

And you said you could out ride me on a mechanical bull.

BBBBAAHAAAAHAAHAHA

Rodeo is the original "extreme sport" Did you know that a bull riders expectancy to be paralyzed is in the high 80%? True....

You know all that horse and cow stuff may LOOK easy. It's not, and most of the time it hurts. But I would not have traded my time on the rodeo circuit for anything, best time of my life. If you think racing a mustang is fun, try a live one next time. What a rush!!!

You caught me.

The whole thing makes me laugh because I've been watching it since I was little. That and the tractor pulls. But these people talked about it like somebody just came up with the idea.

By the way Shelby, I still hold to the claim that I can out ride you.

Hmmm, new? I think not.

I used to be into rodeo's (hey, I grew up in Texas and Oklahoma, what do you expect??)

I used to barrel race, and never missed the Will Rogers Championship. Bull riding has to be my favorite event, not really sure why. My best friend in high school was a bull rider...he was quite good. His career was ended before it started tho. He had a run-in with a really angry bull that almost took his leg off. I don't care what they do to the horns (filing, taping, etc) they still do a lot of damage! After his recovery from that injury, he returned to his passion....only to get stomped by the same bull. Man, than bull did not like him!! LOL He decided to go into a safer profession and went into law enforcement.

Wow. The things you learn when you stop and read the posts! I'll have to start trying to do that more often.

Take care,

I don't share the love of the sport as some do. Not to be blunt, but tying off an animals testicles to get the really good, and angry, then watching for somebody to be trampled to death isn't my idea of a sport worth noting. More like a death wish. Personally, I think the people who decide to take part in the sport are mentally defective, and it's just Darwinism at work.

Come on Kell, don't sugar-coat it, tell us what you really think!

While I don't have a problem with rodeos, that is pretty much exactly the way I feel about bull fighting.

Take care,
-Chris

Kell,
Maybe you would prefer mutton busting. Take one 5 year-old, throw them on the back of a lamb, and let them run around. Its freaking hillarious, and no testicles are harmed in the process.

It is just an exhibition of the skills that breaks wild horses. Kind of like NASCAR is an exhibition of the skills that kept the south in booze. Neither one is that preavolent anymore, but we still like to watch the sport.

I prefer "mutton" stew. The execution of a lower animal species to be hacked up in bite sized chunks thrown into a pot of liquid and cooked till tender and tasty.

Well, I'm guessing it's tasty, I've never had it. LOL.
