Default 1995 5.0 a good buy?

I'm considering a 1995, 5.0, 5 speed, 60k miles, asking price is $9,800, convertible. It's my firtst mustang, and i'm excited about it. But I'd like to know of any particular quirks or problems with this particular year and model. Any help would be MOST appreciated!

9800 seems like alot for that car, unless it's in EXCELLENT condition. and even so, go to KBB.COM and price out all teh options...

but as far as the car goes it still has the 5.0 wich is cool. I've got a convertable and if you've never had one, once you have one you'll never want another hardtop again...

I live in BOSTON, and judging from your username, I'll guess you're in the northeast, but eitherway, once spring comes, that top never goes up.

I love my 95. You get all the aftermarket of the 5.0, and the nice interior and body style (IMO)

I haven't put my top down on my 2002 yet, so I can't comment n the convertible aspect.

I would also think that price is a little bit on the high side. For example I paid about US$11,000-11,500 for my couple almost 4 years ago! And I only had 35,000 miles on it.

I would say the only different as far as parts go is the intake, inwich you'd need an angled adapter for the throttle body.. but almost all other parts are interchangable.

I would wheel and deal him down a bit. I paid $5800 for my 91GT Conv. in 2001. The car only had one owner and had 41K original miles on the clock at the time. If I were you, I try and get him down to $9,000.

KBB list that car for about 10700 i was checking on a 94 and the 95 was coming up more and that was with 51k but i dont think its that big of a difference. I just found a 95 gt convert for 9899 talked them down to 9500 w/ only 53000. try to get them down alittle but dont ask to much, theyre great reliable cars, just register it with ford because i know theres a recall for the cooling fan and the emergency brake on stick shift cars.

Kelley blue book(KBB) lists the Private party value(PPV) as $8600. Everytime I buy a used car from a dealership I negotiate to pay the KBB PPV and always end up making the deal. When I buy from a private party I always negotiate to pay the person the KBB trade in value and always end up making the deal....so in other words the values in KBB are overshot, but they are useful if you utilize them as I do.

It is my opinion that the '95 5.0 5speed 'Vert you're looking at could be had for $8500-9000. I would absolutely, positively not pay $9800. And take into account that what is asked is NOT what they expect to get! They expect to have to bargain and ALWAYS pad up the price.

I am very experienced buying and selling cars, I havechecked many pricing resources and find the best way for me to determine prices is using the method above. I do also deduct for damage or blemishes. And by the same token I WILL pay slighty more for an impeccibly clean car.

I hope you buy it, or one like it, because Mustangs really are a lifestyle and I think that's a great feature for ANY car to come with! You'll really enjoy it!

Take care

Yes go for it. I have a 95 GTS coupe and it's been the best and most reliable car I've ever owned. I paid a little over $8,500 for mine with 71,000 three years ago (but it's not a vert and has nothing electric but the mirrors) but it was in showroom condition. Like everyone else has said too, bargain, 9,800 is they're high side and you should be able to get them down at least another $750. Good luck

KBB a joke! Go to edmunds.com for far more realistic values.

Default DONE DEAL!

$8,800 plus a 92 Buick LeSabre (139,000 miles) got me the 95 GT, 5.0, 5-speed, vert, 65,000 miles. I couldn't be happier. It's the most fun I've had driving in forever!. The acceleration in 2nd, 3rd and 4th is a rush. And the black on black exterior is in great shape and makes it a real looker. Thanks to all who replied with such useful info - it was real helpful. Now for some light mods . . . I'm a complete nubie, and don't have a lot of tools (although I do have a garage). But I'm eager to learn about the car and undertake some light mods to boost performance. Any suggested books, web sites, or other resources that might be a helpful starting point would be most welcome. More importantly, any suggested easy mods that I might undertake immediately would also be helpful. Thanks in advance!

Looks like you paid around $1,000 and one 92' Buick too much, but congratulations anyway.

Dont be in a rush to mod it, especially if you are a newbie like you said. Take your time, do your homework, buy some books, learn about everything and the possible consequences before you start messing around under the hood.

I havent seen too many good mustang books out there, not for the experienced mechanic anyway, but being a newbie the books might be good for you. Just go to your book store, there are tons of mustang books available. Or look on amazon.com

I just sold my 5.0 book on e-bay....oh, well, u can get a lot of the books really cheap on amazon these days..

later
