If anyone ever tries to get you to help change a quadrant, DO NOT DO IT! Run AWAY
Changing the quadrant was about all the torture in my 38 year old body could handle. The STEEDA parts seem to work well, but for the price they SHOULD have included the spacers to align the quad to the cable and stop the rattles. I had to hand make some 0.500" ID washers to get the fit correct.

Did you buy the firewall adjuster? If not I highly recommend it. I had problems with my clutch cables wearing out the grommet on the firewall and then it would stretch the cable and give improper clutch feel.
I actually broke transmissions like that until I found out what the problem was. It was never fully disengaging the clutch, and I was shifting very hard (bent shift forks, broke gear clusters). I was too stupid to realize that if it doesn't want to go in you shouldn't force it. I think it only costs $45 and trust me, the clutch feel is awesome. Also once you get the clutch adjust on the cable at the clutch lever, you can now do your adjusting from the top at the firewall. Jason

My dad and I seem to be the only ones that didnt have a very hard time doing this lol. I bought the whole quadrant, firewall adjuster and cable package. Went in very nicely. We did use a couple washers on the side though.

Yeah, a friend of mine forwarned me how hard it was so I held off on mine until it was time for me to swap out my front seats. When the seats were out, I did it. Made it 100x easier.

Yeah the job sucks.
Luckily I put mine in when I did my AOD-T5 swap while I had the pedal assembly out. This made it MUCH easier

I would get this kit and install it on my Mustang, but to be honest, I've not noticed anything wrong with the stock setup. Am I crazy, or missing something? The pedal feels fine and engages properly without any issues. Am I just lucky?
Thanks, E

i'm only 20 and my body felt that. ford need to train gnomes how to do task like that and then package them with the part.
i agree about the firewall adjuster. i think that is how my t5 got its 2nd gear fucked. my old cable was really streched.... so much that the previous owner put 1/4 inch think nuts on the end of the cable as "spacers" even with 6 of those the damn thing was hard to get in. |

you'll sure notice it if your plastic quadrant breaks and you can't disengage your clutch!

It mostly happens with a higher pedal effort clutch. I had the FMS Heavy Duty unit. That is what caused the rubber grommet to wear out and cause premature stretching of the cable.

Wow! What a response
I did get the firewall adjuster and the adjustable cable. All are Steeda parts.
I actually started this entire project of the rebuild because the clutch would not disengage properly. The rebuild was planned for next summer, but my newly acquired 5.0 did not want to wait. My plastic quad was working, but man those pawls on the adjusting mechanism were very worn. Speaking of T5 failures, has anyone else had a T5 failure caused by a bad pilot bearing. Some mechanics I know, including my father, have had experiences with transmission failure due to pilot bearing. Low and behold, when I tore my engine down the pilot bearing was trashed. The roller bearings had left the race and were inside the crankshaft cavity. I think that caused my previous T5 failure which I had blamed on my bad shifting or the previous owner. I replaced this old T5 with a T5z in August-2002

I had pilot bearing problems before also. I ruined the input shaft bearings on a brand new T-5z. I replaced the bearing and it fell out again. Turns out that the pilot recess on the crank was ruined by the first failure (metal parts ground out the recess).
