Would this make me a poser?
I've always loved the look of the 98 Cobra hood with the bigger, forward facing snorkles. Were the 96-97's that way too? Anyway, i'm not trying to make a Cobra clone ie no badges, rear bumper cover, round foglights, etc. I just love that hood. Is it ricey or would I be posing if I got that hood for my 96GT? It just looks so much cooler than the GT hood. I would think without all the other badging and stuff it wouldn't look like I was fakin' it but I respect all your opinions. Any thoughts?

I'm with you Stefan. I say if you like the looks of it, then go for it. You're not trying to fool anyone.
I have a GT rear valance and a Shelby front valance on my '66 because I like the looks as well as the function. That doesn't mean I'm tryiung to pass it off as a GT or Shelby. To me these are just custom touches that personalize a car. Of course things should remain in good taste, but there's always room for argument there. Cool. That's the only other exterior mod I planned on doing. The only thing that makes it look different right now is the side exhaust. Everything else looks stock right down to the rims (although I want some polished Torque Thrust II's in 16's or the new GT Torque Thrust style in 17's. That will be the extent of exterior stuff. Any other opinions?

I say go for it. I have a 92 GT 5.0 and I have a cobra spoiler and rear bumper. If you like it, buy it. As long as you don't make it look EXACTLY like a cobra. A few nights ago, I looked at a "Saleen S281" but it was really a GT. He had everything, even the decals. It looked like one but after I examened it closer, I noticed he didn't even have the correct stickers. They weren't even close to the original. My point is, a cobra hood on your pony will not make you a "poser"!

Go for it, dude, I have cobra badges and taillights, but it's not a cobra, and I tell people it isn't one, but I still get $hit for it. I think it looks better, and really, that's all I care about! So if you like it, DO IT!

Right on. This is what I wanted to hear. Uninitiated car people wouldn't know the difference anyway of whether it was a Cobra or not. Are there any aftermarket firms that make a knockoff cobra hood just like stock? I know there are variations of the hood that are out there but I want the exact hood. I am stuck with just the Ford part? Thanks for all the help guys.

Naaahhh, it wouldn't make you a poser. Putting the bumper on would kinda, but you'd still be in the safe zone.. as long as you don't put on all the badges and stuff. I don't see a GT with a Cobra hood as a poser, but I kinda do see a GT with Cobra hood, front and rear bumpers, badges, etc as poser IMO.

Is there any design reason for the Cobra hood to have those snorkels? If there is, why don't you get the Cobra hood and then make it a project to install the intake systems that utilize the hood Then you wouldn't be posing at all!

You'd only be a poser if you didn't do anything except for slap COBRA badges every where and in every orifice and put stickers everywhere.
If you think it looks cool, then do it. Screw what other people think, it's your car ------------------ previous name: 84stangLX '84 Mustang 5.0 LX my LX '89 Mustang GT my GT |

I was away from my computer for the weekend so I just wanted to thank everyone else for their replies. Vector, i'm pretty sure the hood is non functional like the GT hood. It just looks meaner in my opinion. I'm gonna start checking prices soon and see what I can come up with.
