Welding Exhaust - Need Info???
I'm gonna weld up my exhaust when I get everything (BBK Longtubes, Dr. Gas 3"- 2 1/2" X-pipe, Spintech Prostreets/Turndowns). I'll be using my friends Lincoln Weldpack 100 wirefeed welder. We've used it for exhaust a few times but couldn't get it to leave a clean/solid weld. There were small holes and the welds were sloppy, any advice on what heatsettings/wire to use? We were using the flux core wire that came with the welder and the pipes wee clean, should we use non-flux wire or try gas shielding? Any info is appreciated, I don't want to trash out my exhaust but I don't want to bring it anywhere and have someone else do a half-*ssed job for a good amount of money.

That flux stuff spits and splatters all over the place...
Use gas shielding, and you'll get cleaner looking welds with less splatter.

Non-flux solid wire. I believe its size 25 with 75/25 CO Ar gas. That is waht I used for all my rollcage, thru-the-floor subframes, and t-arm suspension...

Yep, flux core wire sux bad. You gotta use the gas shielded to get a nice smooth weld.
I used flux core wire to weld in some sub frames at a friends house once. I will never use that crap again

Oh I forgot. You may have problems if you are trying to weld outside with the gas shielded wire. The wind can blow the gas away an make the welds porus and look like crap.
Hopefully you will be working indoors.

I'll definitely post a soundclip/video when I get it installed, I still have to pick the car up this saturday so it may be a few weeks until I buy everything. How much are some of the things for gas shielding like tanks, gas, reulator/gauge, etc. My friends welder is the weldpack 100, I'm not sure if it came with anything or not to hook up the gas. Thanks for everyones input.

Also, which grade or whatever of solid wire is good? Can I weld stainless turndowns to aluminized steel mufflers with the solid steel/copper wire?
