As far as the handling of the new GT's, I would have to disagree with jpinoh. I have had 3 Fox body stangs, and even when it was stock my new GT is light years ahead of them in handling even though it uses the same configuration. They may not be easy to drive at the limit, but they can go fast around the twisties with a little finesse. Didn't you see the article where the GT spanked a new Integra Type R on a road course, so they put them on a really windy course and the Integra only won by about 1 second. You can't disagree that the ITR is one of the best handling stock cars out there, so if a stock GT can hang I don't see what the complaint is. With the mods I have done to my suspension (I don't even have the panhard bar and torque arm yet), I can hang with my roadracing buddies who have turbo RX-7's, Integras, etc...

Moxie- what if the Z06 guy put nitrous on it? I mean you could "What if" stuff to death.

Unit-You can get a 98 vette with about 20k with a 6-speed for 28-30 around here.

People just don't understand vettes, I mean I can't afford one, or I'd have one. All these people that say ahhh there too expensive, I smoke them all the time. WHile that might be true.....have you driven one? It's a vette...plain and simply. The new Z06 is BAD *** , capable of low low 12's all stock. Yeah $49,995 is alot of dough. But...it's a vette! =P You could put all the money in your stang, custom interior, awesome paint job, new motor, wheels, suspension, new tranny, and on, and on. But it wouldn't be a vette, and after all that you'd have more than 50k in it, and might be able to sell it for $7k? =P. I still love stangs, but...Vettes are Vettes.

Okay, I'm gonna contribute to this discussion by saying 'vettes are 'vettes until they get their butts spanked by a serious 'stang and then all they are is a sad yuppie GM dog with their tails underneath them as they go home whining all the way home to mama! (I just had to raise the 'stang flag!!!)

Good luck on finding one under 38k 1BAD89 I did a country-wide search on www.classifieds2000.com for all Corvettes 1997-2201. For the 1999 Model year there wasn't one below $38,000, and there were over 400 results.

You could go back to 1997-1998 and get a little price break, but the price break cars often had WAY more miles on them. I'm talking sometimes as many as 100,000+. Apperently, some people must use the thing as a company vehicle. Regardless, you'd be very hard pressed to come up with ANY C-5 under $30,000.

Based on the huge price drop and/or the high mileage, it's not fair to compare a 1999GT to a 1997C-5. You could always go and get a 1996GT, but quite frankly, for the money when compared to the 99's, they aren't worth anything.
