Only in England (how to make an 8 a 10)
There was an actually study conducted by Brittish scientists on the "Beer Goggle" effect. Turns out that drinking 4 beers makes the opposite sex look 25% better.
Holy crap man, I didn't realize that the girls all get prettier at closing time. Come on, how is this news? I actually saw this on the 10 o'clock news tonight. Where are the Brits to explain how their socalist government is better than our democracy, while they blow their money doing 'research' that could have been proven at any frat party here? Hmm, is that why there are pubs on every corner over there? So people actually look good to each other?

I was raised in England! I consider it home more than I do the US.

Being a bartender, I've seen the beer goggles in full effect.... It's funny (and SAD) to see who ends up with who after a few drinks. That's a big reason I have trust problems with the opposite sex. You'd be amazed how easy everyone gets, male and female. The people who start off turning down the drink offers and dance offers, are out on the dance floor and flirting heavy and making out with others by the end of the night, married people too!! I've got to get out of this business!!!
As for the study, all they had to do was ask me, I would have charged them half of what they paid to do their "research"!

Back to the main topic that is pretty funny, yeh I've seen it in action too, I went to a few bars with my school (on a school trip to Quebec) and I seen some friends dance with woman that were 4 times the size of them, I laughed forever and they still deny to this date it happen. Clubs arn't the place to be getting drunk if your in a relationship. Unless you know 1000% what you are doing when under the influence of alcohol. I never trust any guy who's drunk, or girl for that matter. As for me when I'm drunk, I just do really stupid funny things to keep people entertained. §am.

Government waste
Deuce:
I love these government-funded research reports that state the obvious such as the 'beer goggle effect'. Unfortunately, it's not just the Brits doing this. Here in the USA we have tons of scientists and researchers making a very good living every year doing 'research' on all kinds of useless and foolish subjects. I consider it PhD welfare. With a 2.13 trillion dollar budget, our government has plenty of money to waste - and they do, by the boatload. Then they cry that they need more and the Democrats get hysterical over some tiny tax cut. As for the British system of (socialist) government; it's a mess, of course. What else is new? I like the English and admire their stand with us on terrorism but even so, socialism never really benefits anyone but government bureaucrats and the elite. Unfortunately, we're catching up with our British cousins, incrementally, with our obscene tax rates and government agencies having the jurisdiction to poke into every aspect of our lives. Socialism by another route. I cringe when I hear people respond to some perceived social problem with the phrase: "The government needs to do something". The government is us - or it's supposed to be - and for the most part (outside of the military), our government usually makes things worse when it takes over and attempts to solve some problem, real or imagined. This is my favorite time of year - summer - when Congress isn't in session and no new laws or regulations are being made. I feel a bit safer - for awhile. Although I'm a Republican I have no illusions about the fact that all politicians are very adept at wasting taxpayer money on nonsense like 'Beer Goggle Effect' studies. Your tax money at work, folks. |

I was trying to create a logical fallacy by linking the two statements together. The fact that it was reported on the local news that it was British research, and the little I know about England seemed comical.
Also, I love the English. Without them, we wouldn't have had a starting point to save the French in WWII. And don't get me started on the Bond girls. Only kidding, I was trying to get a rise out of someone specific, to no avail. Seriously though, it's all in good fun, I hope. I don't understand people booing, "Oh, Canada" and I don't approve. It's unfortunate that so many people down here don't appreciate our neighbors to the north, but that's a whole nother discussion.
