What do you guys think the '03 Cobras will run in the 1/4?
What do you guys think the new Cobra will run in the 1/4 mile? (The pole is with no mods what so ever. The car would be in factory trim.)

It's really hard to tell about those cars. Their very impressive that's for sure. I think with a good driver, good air, good altitude, on good drag radials or slicks, i'd say low 12's shouldn't be that hard.

Just a curious questoin, they say this is the fastest Mustang ever produced right? I was talking to my dad last night and being the old guy he is he was telling me about some of his friends that '69 428 SCJ if you lined these two up, who do you think would win? or even the 429 BOSS. I'm just curious cause alot of cars were said to be underrated back then.

if you put a decent tire on those cars from the mid to late 60's then yes they could run pretty good but on stock tires they had a hard time putting there power down.

There has already been at least one low 12 that I've seen timeslips for. 12.3@118mph in stock trim by a Viper owner who picked a coupe and a vert up.
I would imagine anybody worth a crap at driving is gonna pull a mid 12 out of the car. It would be a low 12 car had they not used the iron block. The late 60s muscle doesn't stand a chance against the new Cobra. Not even close. The quickest of the quick might have been able to rip off a low 12 with today's street tires at maybe 105-108mph. The Boss 429 was just too front end heavy to get a good launch on street tires. The best bet to outrun a new Cobra is the 1968 428CJ. The best time I've ever seen listed was a 13.56@108mph. It was tested by Kar Kraft magazine. Of all time Mustang's, the 1968 GT500 with the 427 may have an outside shot of running near it, tuned by the professionals at Shelby American. Nobody can really vouch for how powerful that engine truely is. It was so rare (I have one ) and there are so many stories surrounding it, that it's hard to tell. The 1968 GT500 with the 427 was rated at 390hp@5600rpm, and 460lb/ft@3200rpm. The 427FE was the most aggressive engine Ford ever shoehorned into a production car. My version, like the GT500's was the weak low riser setup. The 10.9:1 CR on the Shelby is much less than the 12.0:1 my 1963 version has. |

Well, I cheated, I belive it was MM&FF that ran the car, they got a 12.5 out of it. Stock, no mods.
About the '67 GT-500 vs a cobra, this was done with the '99 Cobra. The '67 lost, but they say that was only because the guy didn't push his maching #'s shelby, do u blame him? So to answer the qestion of a '67 vs a '03, no, the '03 would kill the '67. More traction to the ground. Plus it's a 6-speed vs a 4-speed, more gears, and better technology.

Very few of the GT500's came with the 427. I'm sure most had the 428.
I'm also very skeptical that a detuned 427 would run with the S/C new Cobra. |

A guy at NMRA Maple Grove ran one this weekend. It was Sonic Blue. The car looks awesome in person. The pass I saw was a mid 13 sec pass. He couldnt drive very well to say the least, so if a crappy drive runs mid 13's then it is a 12 sec car easy with a decent driver and some traction.

The tests that I've read for the '68 428 CJ on bias ply tires were a best of 13.65 at 101-102 or there abouts. Certainly drag radials would improve those times, but not enough to beat an '03 Cobra.
