Post bleach and burnouts

I've heard people talk about pouring bleach on the rear tires before doing a burnout. What does this do?

It creates a thick white cloud of smoke. Bleach has chlorine in it, so maybe a chemistry guy can tell us if that cloud has deadly chlorine gas in it.

I'm not a chemist, but I believe it's meant to soften up the rubber a little for a better bite.

the bleach just softens up the rubber, so that it makes more smoke cause it burns up more. you probably would get any chlorine gas, though i don't know the chemical formula for rubber. if you want chlorine gas, go pour bleach into your cats litter box, the ammonia in urine breaks up the chlorine.....thats a good prank..........

My neighbor almost died from mixing household amonia with bleach to clean a toilet.

Try some ATF sometime, makes an awsome smoke show and won't hurt your tires...

Acually it is supposed to make the smoke blue. My friend tried it on his comaro and sadi that it worked. Try it and see if this is true. Light Em Up!!!

Chlorine bleach and household ammonia produce cyanide gas. Don't do that.

jimberg, I think it's worse than that. Cyanide is what I've heard.

Rev,

Check out this little blurb on Ammonia. The most important thing is: DON'T DO IT.

Sounds like your right jimberg. I've had a good blast of cl2 when repairing a swimming pool regulator that fed chlorine gas to the pool. Not pleasant. Thanks for the link.
