Wink Where did the last dollar go?

3 men walk into a Hotel.

They don't have a lot of money but get a room for $30. Each guy kicks in $10 for the total of $30.

The men go to the room and have a few beers.

After they leave the hotel manager realizes he over-charged the guests by $5! So he sends the bell hop to give back the money to the men.

On his way up the bell hop thinks to himself "How am I going to split $5 into 3?" He pockets $2.

He gives each man a $1 bill. ($5 less the $2 he kept is $3 right )

So....Each guys pays $10 less $1. That's $9 each.

3 guys paying $9 each is $27.

$27 plus the $2 the bell hop kept is only $29??

Where did the last Dollar go?

No hints...yet

All 3 men got a buck back, plus one of them got an additional $2. You left out the $1 dollar the guy handling the money got.

Because he was one of the 3 men, by keeping his own "dollar back", plus the $2 he pocketed, that makes $3. $3 plus $27 is $30.

I love this riddle. There is no lost dollar, it just makes you rethink the way you do math.

The dollar is there, you just can't approach it the way that I lead you to in the riddle. You must think of the 3 guys as a "group" and the math works...
