'Member me?
I won't bore you with why I haven't been on in a VERY long time. I'll just say that work has had me quite busy lately.
Anyway, I've recently been asked to build a strip car for the shop (it's a joint effort by the entire shop) by the boss. It's a '64 Falcon. We have several 302's, 289's and 351's sitting around in the shop.(it's great to say that isn't it??) He's not sure how to go but he wants a budget racer, I jsut don't have a budget yet. I figure the cheaper the better, though. Any thoughts or ideas. I've thought about getting a wrecked Fox body and borrowing the wiring harness and computer, building the 351 to handle it, and blow the damn thing with a S-trim or something. I like that idea. I like it alot. "Momma always said, 'Bigger is better, Forrest.' Momma was always smart." Ok by. Later.

I love 351s man, don't get me wrong. But throw a 289 in that girl! That would be KILLER to have a blown 289 in a '64 Falcon running down the strip......

When I was thinkin budget I wasn't thinking a Strim
I was thinking the 351 w/ about 11:1 compression, using the gt40P heads w/ a home port job, Rpm intake and 750dbl pumper carb. All the supporting exhaust and ignition, and a 125shot of n20. Skyler

I'm torn.
As a huge fan of the '64 falcon, I would be inclined to say a solid lifter 289 with maybe some Cleveland heads or something exotic, keeping it under the stock hood. Or, build a nasty 351 with a high rise manifold and top it with a thunderbolt hood. Those look pretty mean on that car. Either way, have fun with it and put up some pictures. Welcome back.

A few years ago,there was a '64 Falcon at a car show.They had a built 289 with 351 heads that ran mid-low 11's.
The car was restored from top to bottom, they were willing to sell the entire car for 8000$ complete or 4000$ without motor. I'll tell you this much,If I didn't buy this 87GT for 8000$,I woulda walked away with that Falcon that day after the car show especially after they fired it up after the car show was done, can you say DROOL! |

Thanks for the welcome back. The "little" lady is doing pretty good, and the baby is just as much a handful as I am. I am soooooooo busy with work I can't remember the last time I didn't work a weekend. I haven't even been on a computer in 3-4 weeks.
Yeah yeah yeah, evcuses excuses. Forgive me, for I know not what I do. Anyway, we're still in the planning phase on the Falcon, but it's should be fun. I am trying sooo hard to get the green light for the blower and 408 combo, but realism keeps messin' with me. Anyway, thanks for the ideas. I'll keep you guys posted. Pics, and dyno sheets to come. I plan on doing a dyno before and after.(it has a 289 in it now, and yes it runs, if you want to call it that) Later. |

Great to have you back. If budget is a real constraint, how about just a naturally aspirated, stroked 351W? Say a 393, 408, 427, with good heads, induction, roller cam, exhaust? Should be good for 400-450 HP at the fllywheel easy enough. That would be fairly gnarly in a 3000 lb. Falcon, wouldn't it?
