Whats the silencer?

I have read alot of people remove the air silencer? what the heck is that and where is it located? why do you take it out?

It's a plastic box contraption that Ford installed in the passenger side fenderwell of Mustangs to quiet the sound of outside air being drawn into the throttle body under hard acceleration. It's totally useless and restricts airflow but fortunately for you, the silencer can be easily removed with absolutely no negative consequences except a slighter louder roar when you stomp on it. I'm sure you can deal with that.

You have to take the stock air cleaner assembly out to remove the retaining bolts for the silencer on the inside fender. It's easy and straightforward. Once the air cleaner assembly is off and the silencer bolts have been removed, all you have to do is wiggle the odd-shaped air silencer out of the fenderwell to remove it. Removing the wheel and tire make this job much easier but it's not absolutely necessary. Once the useless silencer is out, throw it away, as it will never be missed by any future owners.

I removed mine the day after I bought my Mustang (new) in 1990. My very first 'mod'!

Oh i took that out when i put my k&n ait intake in becase the ew filter wastoo ig to fit in the space with that i didnt know that was the silencer....thank you.
