Burnouts
Ok, I am wondering, why the heck can't I do a burnout? I get it up to 5k and drop the clutch and it just leaves a 5 foot long black mark, a very light one! I am going it in my 98 GT and the other night a stupid kid with a 94 GT comes and does the same as me and squeels the tires and leaves a big black mark. He's got a K&N air filter and superchip. How is that gonna help? I got a K&N airfilter to, but, my car just doesn't want to squeel or crap. Now, all my friends thinks he is the greatest guy in the world and keep asking me why I can't burn! Makes me mad! GRRRRR! Help!

Hey man, I wouldn't be so disappointed in the fact that your tires will not allow a burnout. Don't get me wrong, I know what you mean wanting to be able to burnout, but hey, next time he laughs ask him to run 'em. You'll be the one hookin up and wasting him. If he's stock that chip doesn't mean much. It isn't going to do him much good at all. You're hookin, he's burnin. You're winning. My 87 GT was like that too. Also get some better gears. BTW, what tires are you running?

I once burned off a free pair of 17 inch tires from about 90% left to 10% left. Just sat there for about 25 sec.
How you say? Drop the clutch at whatever say 4000 rpm and right away take the your left foot press and hold the brake. Level out your rpm say 3000 -3500 and the car will sit and smoke will rise until you are sick. PS -- Make sure the windows are up or you have a gas mask! ------------------ C ME FLY 88 Coupe, riding on 17'z and Eibachz making noize [This message has been edited by smithbling (edited 10-21-2000).] |

Hey, my tires on my stang did the same thing. Hardly a mark, and next to no smoke. I found that the cheap Pep Boys tires smoke and leave good marks. Don't worry, its a good thing. I had Michelin Pilot XGT Z4's. They were an expensive tire and I was glad they didn't leave big black marks or else i would have been doing it a lot more. I'll tell you what, when I needed to hook in a street race, these hooked, worth the $. The guys leaveing the burnouts won't be able to hook when they need to. And that crap about heating the tires doesn't work on a street tires, so don't worry about doing a burnout before a street race, maybe a quick spin to clean them, thats all. Street tires are rated on their ability to dissapate heat, so a burnout just wastes 1000's of miles.

Holy cow, you all give GREAT advice! Thats why I love MustangWorks!! Anyhow, I tried what smithbling said and man, I left a nice little black mark and squeel right in front of his sorry *** car! I gotta take a pic of his car, it was in a crash, and he bought it for $3,000 and "repaired" it. I feel sorry for it, the car has problems. And, I found he had a bald pair of tires on so his can barely leave a mark! Also, I don't do burnouts all the time, or try to, its just kinda fun, I know it takes miles off, but hey, I am a teen, I own a fast car ( well, in my mind, not compared to your modded rockets ) so I thought, I'd show she can burn! Thanks for the great advice!

if you want to do a burnout rev the car up to about 4500 rpm's dump the clutch and floor the brake and hold the gas at between 4500 and 5000 rpm's and just sit there and watch the smoke. then let off the brake, track out. doin this at the track will drop your 60 foots .1-.4 seconds. good luck with your car if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask.

One foot on the clutch. One on both the brake and the gas pedals. Heel of right foot on the brake and other part of foot on gas pedal. Give 'er some rpms and let out the clutch while keeping the brake depressed and controlling the gas with the same foot. It's not as hard as it seems. Actually pretty easy. That's a bit easier for me than dumping the clutch and trying to get my left foot on the brake pedal. Just do the gas and brake with the right foot.

Ive done the dump the clutch and grab the break real fast thing, Did a good 20 second monster burn out. Went about 200 feet after that.
Get some gears and mods to your car man. I can just let out the gas at idle floor it and leave black marks for 150-200 feet all the way through the top of 2nd gear smoking the whole way. I have a 225/50/16 tire.. what do u run. I remember the first time I had ever did it. It was at a coffee shop and a bunch of "carguys" hang there. Anyway there always was a 1985 Firebird auto that would do the infamous one-wheel burnout. One day he was 3 sec. into the burnout and the tranny broke. The guy was pantsed (embarrassed) right there. Him and his friends run up to the car begin the inspection. I decide to roll up right beside them (10 feet) and give em one look, then tires up in smoke. I fill the place and burn around a corner with smoke pouring from the tires and my fans cheer me on.

In the media center under home videos you can see my car do a burnout. I did the race from the clutch to the brake with my left foot it works the best for me and just hold the brake enough that you go about one mile an hour.

My posi is out (only smoke the right wheel when braked) but I can still lay down some black marks. I just got an new 2800 converter installed and I was on some smooth, slick pavement. I rolled it out just a little before punching it. I let off after about 20 feet but left enough evidence of what I did. Didn't smoke the tires then but it still felt pretty cool!
