Angry One legged burnouts are killing my 1/4!

Went to the track to try for the elusive 13 second timeslip and found out I'm only spinning one of my wheels. Still ripped off a 1.97 60' time, but I'm thinking I need to get this taken care of in order to get into the 13's. My questions are:
1) Do I rebuild the Trac-Loc or go with an Auburn or Eaton or Detroit locker etc. (which would be best if I do?)
2) Should I replace the axles while I'm at it, I'm not made of money but I don't want to do this twice either.
3) Can I do this myself or do I need to have a mechanic do this, I'm good with tools but never worked on a rear end. Local shop gave me a price of $800-$900 for the auburn and labor.
Right now my plan is to eventually go low 12's on motor, maybe high 11's, so keep that in mind. Thanks in advance for any help.

I like the Trak-Lok. If it wears out, you rebuild it again. Once the Auburn wears out, you toss it and get another. I rebuilt mine in the vehicle in about 3 hours. Basically, just pull the axles, put in the new clutches (use the alternating clutch pack method), and put it back together. Not that tough. No way can I get one wheel to spin now.

THIS JUST IN!! All the good stuff is going in the new red 93 GT - no more rattles!

If your plan is to hit those #'s. Get a 31 spline trac-lock, 31 spin C-clip eliminator axles.

If on a budget re-build it. I think someone on another post said 75$. Get some good fluid like redline or something.

Cool

I have a 28spl Trak-lok and have rebuilt it several times over the years! The Auburn lasted one month! 11.94 wth a 1.58 60ft, I have 31spl axles and will upgrade soon.

Sounds like the rebuild may be my best bet until I can afford a quality upgrade. I won't have to worry about snapping an axle or anything will I? I'm running drag radials, no slicks for right now, and my pony has about 74,000 miles on the clock. Where can I get a rebuild kit? Summit, Mustangs Unlimited? I didn't see anything in the Summit catalog.

The only ones I was able to find were dealer items. I've seen them on some websites (don't remember which) for $60. I got mine at the dealer for $77.
BTW, I did mine in the car, just pulled the axle shafts. Check out the Corral tech article on gear changes, it's got a section on the two different methods for clutch installation (alternating and factory). It's got some good tips, too.
